If one person pulls off that lease payment in So Cal, I'm getting one.
It's not just saving gas money. It's saving depreciation on miles/parts on my main car.
Quote: | The resulting deal was just too good to pass up: a 36-month lease at a price that’s $2,100 off the MSRP. Add in the $7,500 federal credit (used as a down payment) and the $2,500 rebate from California, and the 80 racers have made off with a nearly free commuter car—one that even has access to the HOV lane. The bottom line? $1,000 down and $82.75 per month. |

Great deal, but don't get in an accident with one of those. |

Yeah, its hard to ignore physics when you go against a much bigger car in an accident. These cars definitely have a place as city cars but I definitely don't want to get into one of these in a high speed accident. |

That's a no-brainer deal. An E-commuter car for the cost of a daily Latte? Yeah, pull the trigger on that in a heartbeat. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. I'm tempted, if I can land that lease deal. My coworker has one, but he's paying more than that.
That's why the article isn't making sense to me. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

wow. Getting that @ 85 a month would save me $100 on gas
edit - Van Nuys Fiat has an advertised special of $99 a month with 2500 down. I think they got that price due to the volume involved. _________________ I LOVE BASKETBALL! |

If I land the lease, I'll likely be alternating cars anyway. It'll keep me under lease mileage and I won't have to worry with 240 chargers unless I go out. Right now I'm spending $60 on gas per week anyway.
I figure the $1k down = less wear and tear on my car; save $120 a month on gas, pay $85/mo for a 2nd car. _________________ Resident Car Nut.

just got off the phone with the dealership.
They tried selling me 3500 out of pocket with the 2500 coming back to me via rebate from the state @ 99 a month which is basically the same as the frickin advertised special (but 1000 tacked on)
I held firm and said 1000 out of pocket @ $83/month.
He's checking with his boss.
I'll get a call back in 20 minutes and keep you posted.
edit - I didn't mention the article but said my "friend" got the deal from Fremont Fiat. _________________ I LOVE BASKETBALL! |

If you get that same deal then I may just buy one this week. |

I haven't received a call back yet from Van Nuys Fiat. I'll take that as a no.

Damn, what a deal. I thought me getting a Leaf for 2,500 down and a 200 dollar a month lease was a good deal for me. This would have been nuts. Oh well, I've been happy with the Leaf so I won't cry over spilt milk. |

$1000 down and $85 a month is a pretty awesome deal. Got my Civic LX for $2000 down and $110 a month and I was happy with that. |

I was close to getting one last year. I think I was quoted around $215. Test drove it and really liked it.
But after crunching the numbers, id only be saving about $45 bucks. At that price point id consider it again |

87 miles is less than the average daily commute here in LA. It will be fine if all you do is commute from home to work, and run a few errands here and there. Its obviously not a car you would take for long distance driving or doing road trips. |

Just too small for me. I am a big fan of electric cars, but I think the PHEV's are the best option for me. You can still fill up with gas and drive across the country, or back to back to back appointments, leaving the car at the office or friends house, etc. And you can also charge and try to go as electric as possible. |

One of the guys that got the deal responded to my comment. It's actually 3500 out of Pocket with 2500 coming back to you via CA rebate. I'm going to call the dealership after work today and see if they can match. _________________ I LOVE BASKETBALL! |

Yeah, there's a big thread on Slickdeals about this. Going to read up. |
