Emperor Machiavelli Armani was usually the leader and pioneer of certain philosophies and methods. He showed a bit less tact than today's Coach Pop Tart and more of the personality that more or less got him fired by the Lakers. At least the resting business wasn't a normal practice until game 80 or so. Certainly not 3-4 guys at a time. Today, teams are doing this openly throughout the season. For some teams, it's clearly for tanking purposes. And some might even do so to manipulate playoff positioning and opponent? |
Times change.
I remember when the NBA fined the Lakers for resting their players before the playoffs early in the 90's. With teams paying their players so much money these days its in their best interest to see that their health is paramount at the expense of getting hurt playing games that might not matter. |
