He always get a lot of hate for collecting the money that was owed to him, but I know he rehabbed hard to try to get back on the court for the Lakers. So I respect him for that. And obviously he had a fantastic career before the Lakers one he should be proud of championship or not.

Did he really have to make a formal announcement? Everyone already knew he was done.

He did nothing for this franchise, except take valuable draft picks away from us, while collecting his checks. He can (bleep) off.

Only thing I'll thank him for is giving us an easy WCF in 2010.

Whatever happened to that other 1st round pick (2013) we traded to Phoenix? I'm looking through the 2013 draft and can't figure out who ended up using it.

Other poster has a point.. This thread should be made in a Suns forum.. Nash has never been a true laker he took the Suns under his wings.. Let the Suns fans appreciate him not us.

Actually the pick we traded to Phoenix became the 30th pick Nemanja Nedović who the Suns traded on draft night to the Nuggets. He was waived after his 1st season.

Cleveland had the right to swap the Lakers pick with the Heat's pick from the Sessions trade so essentially the Suns were always trading for the Heats pick which was nothing. The only real good thing we gave up was this next pick we owe from the Nash trade.

People are always angry we gave up 4 picks. I never really minded that 30th Heat 1st rounder or the two 2nd rounders given up in that trade. Picks like that you can buy every year. The limited protected 1st really sucks specifically because we suck and are having our worst stretch in franchise history.

I appreciate what he is doing for Clarkson. And how hard he worked here to get back on the floor.

As a person, I believe Nash is probably awesome. I'd probably consider him a brother of mine if I knew him. That's how cool and awesome I think he is. But as a Laker, there was no connection to him.

He never made any memorable plays that hooked my heart.

He is the guy who was always the overrated enemy who became my ally for a short period of time and then screwed me in the long run.

I appreciate the work he is doing with Clarkson. But honestly, he hasn't given the Lakers anything close to what they were hoping to get from him. So helping Clarkson is the least he could do.

Happy Retirement Mr. Nash.

much respect to Steve. It's sad how it didn't work out with the Lakers but he worked as hard as he could to try and get back on the court.

Everyone bringing him down doesn't understand passion...

I will remember him for how he infused excitement into the NBA, his style of play, his MVP awards, assist records and what he did for the league and not how it ended wearing a Lakers jersey.

All of you who rant and rave about not wanting to this type of news here... move on to other forums if you don't care about news on anyone who once worn the purple and gold. This is LAKERSground... and Steve Nash retired as a Laker, plain and simple.

Can't beat Father Time, wish he could have contributed but it is what it is. The FO tried to do something special that did not work out.

Still all the best to Steve on his retirement...

VLF just cause the lakers wanted Nash to be involved with the team more is the only reason why he started to get connected with players and I would come from a devasting injury to if I knew I was making 28m a year he's not a true laker and basically handicapped the lakers future by his atrocious contract the lakers had to preserve.

I can't say anything bad about a guy with that much passion and love for the game. He gave it his all. He's a class act in my book.

True competitor who just loves to play basketball. I hope he imparted to young Clarkson some great great tips that will help the kid move forward.

He reinvigorated the game with the fastpace style they started in Phoenix.

Good luck Steve!

That was anything, but an easy series.

Remember Game 5 we blew a big lead and were a Ron Artest airball from going to overtime with Phoenix having all the momentum.

Great career. Enjoy your retirement.

I still think he owes one MVP title to Shaq, and the other one to Kobe. But oh well...

I'll always remember Nash for having at least one MVP that should be Kobe's.
