Sucks . Paul Pressey will be acting head coach.

My sympathies to Byron and family.

That is a huge brain drain, what are we going to do?

I hope Pressey is ready to this game because Byron had the team in a nice rhythm. The Utah game was especially impressive, I feel like we can make a dive to the bottom.

My condolences to Byron and the Scott family.

I'm surprised Pressey is coaching instead of Madsen...better for the tank.

Byron Scott to miss upcoming games following mother's death

Byron Scott will miss the Lakers upcoming games in Oklahoma City and Minnesota to attend the funeral of his mother, Dorothy, who died on March 15.

Assistant coach Paul Pressey will assume head duties on Tuesday against the Thunder and Wednesday against the Timiberwolves. Scott will rejoin the team Thursday in Toronto before the Lakers play the Raptors on Friday.

Scott briefly addressed his mother's death Sunday before the Lakers played the Philadelphia 76ers at Staples Center.

He smiled and said his mother was "pretty happy" when he was hired last July to coach the team with which he spent all but three of his 14 seasons as a player and won three championships.

"She had been telling me for years that it would happen," Scott said. "She was a big basketball fan, so she was really excited about that."

Asked what he would remember most about his mother, Scott said, "Her strength, courage. My mom was terrific."

Scott began to tear up and added, "'I don’t want to talk about it anymore because you’re going to get me (emotional). So let’s leave it at that."

I missed him saying she'd died before the last game....am I the only one?

Does this mean Scott is coaching tonight...but not Tues. and Wednesday?

Very nice to know that his Mom had long predicted that he would eventually become head coach of the Lakers, and she lived to see it come to pass. RIP Ms. Dorothy, and condolences to the Scott family.
