So the co-pilot deliberately dropped the plane out of the sky. Wow, that's happened several times now. Airlines better get their (bleep) together. Terrible, just terrible.

I'll not be flying anywhere. For a loooooooobng time.

Kinda OT knowing it was crashed deliberately, but doesn't anyone think it odd that people call a 20 year old car a beater or "classic" but have no qualms about getting into a 20 year old airplane? Just a thought.

Methinks we, the people, need to get our govt to stop killing innocent people.

A day or so after 9/11 a woman stepped up in senate or congress and said "we need to find out why these people were so angry at us". She was called horrible things for asking that

Dude, I appreciate your message, but this thing where you have to bring it up in every random thread? . . . It's getting old.

Actually, your rights as an American really don't have much bearing on a privately run message board.

It should be our duty to stop our govt tyranny. It is how the USA was built after all. Yes?

Posting it in a thread about a horrible and deliberate plane crash that left a 150 people dead is in no way going to have any sort of impact on that. All you really accomplish is looking like a disrespectful nut.

I think that whenever a pilot leaves, one of the stewardesses is supposed to sit in their spot until they get back. Probably hard to follow this consistently, and people just trust their pilots not to do these types of things.

Maybe they should incorporate a lavatory into the cockpit...that way there will be no reason for the flight crew to leave the flight deck. I mean with all these anti-terrorism mechanisms in place, it seemed like the locking door to the cockpit is the easiest to exploit, just because humans tend to be careless and let their guard down over time. How ironic is it that a security system in place that would prevent somebody from entering the cockpit was the reason why the co-pilot was able to crash a jet into the side of a mountain.

What does this have to do with a German pilot crashing a German plane?

The pilot should always have a way to get back into the cockpit. Not a key or fingerprint that terrorists could kill them and use, but just a code that they could put in to unlock it.

The Airbus A320 plane is designed with safeguards to allow emergency entry to the cockpit if a pilot inside is unresponsive, but the override code known to the crew does not go into effect and indeed goes into a five-minute lockdown if the person inside the cockpit specifically denies entry, according to an Airbus training video and a pilot who spoke to the Associated Press.

Jeez, hand over plane piloting to computers monitored by a team on the ground already (and before someone asks yes there are ways to make it so that a computer pilot would be essentially hack proof -- at the very least it'd be more secure than pilot suicide).

We only need pilots really for takeoff and landing...need to design something better than the archaic landing strip. Maybe some jumbo sized harrier technology.

Better yet, get rid of these 1960s-esque outdated planes and develop super fast trains that aren't reliant on as much human input.

WE CAN BUILD A BRIDGE!

No but seriously, if we weren't so stupid that we pour money into crap rather than space exploration, we could have already re-purposed some space elevator tech to take us around the globe in no time.

Like those moving walkways in airports, but better.

always have two crew members in the pit at all times. what happened if the pilot had a heart attack, seizure or a stroke? maybe it wasn't deliberate.
