full disclosure here, and somewhat embarrassing, but until 5 mins ago, I had yet to see any of his tapes (despite watching every other prospects).
I'm an idiot because that kid is the truth. He looks the part of the next great European star: tough, athletic, good defender, great runner, can shoot, and great size. He has to be in consideration if the top 4 are all off the board.
Okafor
Towns
Russell
Mudiay
Hezonja
Winslow
WCS
Johnson
That is my top 8 and generally don't expect much movement except for Towns/Jah, Russell/Mudiay, Winslow/Mario can all flip flop depending on workouts. |

I have a feeling Mitch will pick Hezonja if the lakers get the fourth or fifth pick. |

I feel like it's Winslow. And if not then I think Hezonja could very well be the guy at 4 or 5. WCS is more of a toss up, as to what they're opinion is of him. To me he's top 4-5 worthy |

I have a feeling Russell is the guy who will drop in this draft. If we pick fourth or fifth I believe he will be there because the better athletes are the safer picks.
Imagine how much WCS draft stock will rise if they play duke in the championship game and he has a grea showing. |

I just hope WCS hits every single jumper in his workout. Russell could drop tho, he's one of few guys in that range who's not a workout warrior |

he certainly looks like the real deal...and yes that is a position of need for us..
but folks should remember that we have an option at SF possibly moving forward...
IF we get a PF who can stretch the floor from the outside....like say a Kevin Love.... Julius Randle could easily be our SF...
in fact...think about a front line of Cauley-Stein....Love.....Randle...
we could match up defensively against ANY front line with that...and have some offensive diversity to run and also in the half court...
just a thought. |

I really hope for this if not the top 3 dawgs. Mario can be the next cornerstone/face of the franchise. |

I wish we had EuroLeague dunk rates--everyone's been raving about Hezonja's athleticism, and from mixtape reels and his 2-pt percentage this year, I suspect it's very, very high. I'd like to put a number to it, since Hezonja's secondary stats (particularly free throw rate, but also rebounding) are iffy to me.
I really, really like Justise Winslow. I actually think that we were pretty reasonable at the big man positions and at the small guard positions, but we were sorely lacking at big wing depth. That's where Winslow comes in. Dude ranks tied in #1 in my metrics with Karl Towns, and I think he's a lock to at least be a very good role player. He has very few weaknesses, and major upside. That usually bodes very well.
If Karl Towns or D'Angelo Russell are somehow available, I'd also go for them. Winslow, Towns and Russell are my top three. With Russell, it depends on how much we're vested in Jordan Clarkson. They are very different--Russell only had 3 dunks all season for a 6'5" dude and only had 17% of his shots at the rim--dude is a shooter through and through, but one who can really shoot and pass. Clarkson is our slasher. Metrics love Russell enough, and I think we can move Clarkson to the 2 if need be in a hybrid lineup. Both 6'5".
I mentioned prior that I had Tyus Jones and Stanley Johnson also ranked extremely highly, and while I haven't coded the metrics, I did look at their at-rim percentages and dunk rate--Tyus (55% at-rim %, 0% dunks) and Stanley (52% at-rim %, 4% dunks) are clearly going to get docked for these metrics in the regressions. So in my mind, I've already bumped them down.
I suspect Willie Cauley-Stein will be propped up with my at-rim and dunk regressions--he was already top 10, but I'm not certain he'll make top five. |

I like your top 3 for us.
And Clarkson and Russell can definitely share the back court together. They fill in for each other's weaknesses. Doesn't matter which one is labeled 1 or which is labeled 2 |

Russell because he's the only guy in the poll who can create his own shot in a manner suitable for today's nba. He's in the mold of harden / curry. watch his recent interview in la "through the lens" he already speaks like a star, talking about the essence of self branding basically. He's got "it."
Okafor can create his own shot but I have serious doubts about your number 1 option in today's nba being a post up big man. Not saying it couldn't work but requires unique team makeup including coaching a post style system for it to maybe work. The odds aren't in that favor imo. |

Only 26 out of 150 posters voted for Russell......That is only 17%.....Congrats to the 17% that got it correct....personally, i was really hated on in this thread for choosing Russell....people just being ignorant/followers, etc. . . Russell is the epitome of somebody being their self, not being fake, not following the crowd, thinking outside the box...unlike a lot of people that made malicious comments on this board....I put it plain and simple, the guy makes others around him better...on top of that, hes a great shooter...congrats to the Lakers franchise for picking the correct player.... |

When this poll was made in March the votes still wanted Okafor over Towns. _________________ Nobody in the NBA can touch the Laker brand, which, like the uniform color, is pure gold. |
