This thread is just to help me getting through the loss of Top Gear.

Sadly with Jeremy Clarkson gone Top Gear may not have the chance to show the LaFerrari vs. the Porsche 918 vs. McLaren P1.

After taking a recreational drive through South OC, I'm tempted to sell my Subaru for something more driver oriented.

Was that the one that used to be at the Cove? I swung by it way back when I was still rolling in an S2K (2006 or so?). I'm fairly certain it was because I remember reading it changed to a new location and that rings a bell.

If it's the same one, that was probably the dopest collection of cars you could see on a weekly basis up close like that arguably anywhere.

Yeah, it moved to the Ford/Mazda HQ parking lot in Irvine....I believe it got shut down last December.

They had it at the District for all of 2 weeks, and shut down because it filled up that parking lot quickly.

I haven't heard any updates since then.

BTW, Chris Harris On Cars on YouTube is the best car show out there, right next to /Drive and Motor Trend.

I think the OC one is dead....
I believe there were some people that complained and it got shut down by the land owners. I wouldn't be surprised because while most of the people didn't do burn outs or speed during those gatherings there were a couple of people that ended up screwing it up.

That wasn't it. I had been attending for YEARS. The crowds simply got WAY too big for that lot. Often, the main lot would overcrowd and go into Mazda's HQ secondary lot.

The one in Texas doesn't shut down and it seems every week someone crashes from doing bad burn outs.

They have "Cars and Coffee" gatherings in a lot of cities....I believe that is just the informal name for it. Anyways, it got shut down by the Irvine Company. Good luck trying to resurrect it anywhere in the OC....
Not to mention a lot of cities in California don't want to deal with these car gatherings, so if there are any, it will probably be a rogue one organized on facebook somewhere.

It's shut down? I used to love going down there

And just when I can finally start modding my car lol.

2011 5.0 (manual of course lol)

Mods I have but haven't a put on yet:

Track pack suspension
Steeda axlebacks
HID kit

After that I'll probably get a tune and an intake. Maybe some fatter rubber and nicer wheels and call it a day

I think the manufacturers brought their own reveals to the gathering as well. Also a lot of exotics and rare cars, plus the occasional race car would show up. It really was way better than any auto show and it was free. Only caveat was that you had to wake up at 6am and drive down there to see the cars....

I follow GoldRushRally on IQ to get any updates on local OC gatherings. They were up in Malibu yesterday.

I'm being indecisive about keeping my car. Finally a proper daily driver after 3 straight MR2s. 07 Legacy Wagon GT. Coilovers? Brakes?

No matter what I do though, I'll never enjoy the turbo lag. I miss the responsiveness of a naturally aspirated car.

Kinda prefer something smaller anyway.

But then again I have weird tastes. I would totally get a Mazda 2 manual, and then put a B-Spec suspension..

Then daily drive it.

BTW Clarkson is trying to open up a different Top Gear called Clarkson or MPH Live in Australia.

My thoughts exactly. When I went they had the BAC Mono. It was a ton of fun.

I stare at one everyday at the work place. Just not a fan of the interior.

If I felt more financially secure, I'd be debating a Cayman vs 80s 911.

When TG came hear last year to film "the cars of James Bond special", I worked with Oisin Tymon on the film permit. He was a super nice guy so I can't imagine that he was to blame for what happened with Clarkson.

All that aside, can someone help me source throttle linkage from the pedal to the carb for a 64 Buick Riviera with the 425 Nailhead ( 1 4 bbl, not the dual quads) Having a hard time here, scoured all the usual sources (eBay etc) Any help will be most appreciated.

So did anyone record motorweek this week and catch the new GT-R review? The price has climbed to $103K. Wow it makes me realize what a bargain they were when they first came to NA.

Mike thanks for starting this thread

I'm right there with you. A used Cayman S is my "attainable" dream car. The moment I can comfortably afford to own one as a weekend car is when I'll pull the trigger. One day...

Even at that money, I still wouldn't look GTR's way.

I'd likely go Cayman GT4 at that price point.

F-Type and AMG GTS come to mind as well.

Throughout my professional career, I've driven nearly 7,000 cars. Not as many fun cars (new employer) but at least I've driven nearly everything out there.

Made me a Porsche and Subaru fan.

No garage is big enough.

I think our tastes are pretty similar (as far as sporty type cars).

My first two cars were gen 1 MR2's lol. My HS dream car was the gne 2 MR2 turbo. Had to settle for the gen 1s lol for obvious reasons ($$). If the Cayman S never came along, I'd probably be pining over a Lotus Elise.

They are similar.

My problem is, on a fair budget (somewhat reasonable), I want an Elise, Subaru Legacy 3.0R, and FR-S/Used Cayman. Can't do that all at the same time.

I'm even led astray by manual Mazda 2's or Nissan Leafs occasionally.. budgeting purposes.
