That's the reason why I don't own a motorcycle. I"d want to do that on a closed road.

My favorite question. What dream car would you get if you had a spending limit of $80k?

For me, it's not one car, it's a garage.

$30k Subaru BRZ
$35k Lotus Elise
$15k Used Subaru Legacy 3.0R

Opinions may change any minute.

Hence the subject to change.

A BRZ has plenty of chassis and enough motor to not get into trouble for me. Elise is enough of a show off car for the weekends.

On a single car?

Save the rest, because you know, tires, brakes, Porsche maint.

I just can't GTR. But I can NSX.

I prefer the RC350. I don't like the bulgy curves.

I've been eyeing the RC350. My next car is either going to be the RC350, 228i or something entirely fuel efficient (although the 228i is no slouch, that motor is unbelievably efficient imo).

If we're talking about driving preference, it's 228 all day long.

If we're talking about long distance touring, RC350.

Yeah. I'm out of warranty for awhile. Fortunately, the basics like brake work, oil changes, etc I do on my own. I'm up the creek if it's major. I'm already running into some minor electrical issues recently. I might need to get out of this ride sooner rather than later.

That's the only reason why I'm even looking the RC's way.

And I desperately want a 320i M-package wagon.

M4 with a baby is a no go. Kind of kills the look of of the m4 with a car seat in it. I don't like the engine of the 535i. Too many issues ranging from exhaust leak air mass sensor. Oil gasket leaks etc. if you get a 535i get a diesel.

My choice is the tesla. Electric motor seats 7 and almost 300 to a charge

Cost is obviously a factor
I like having a luxury feel in a car, while still enjoying driving it...that's the main reason I'm considering the 5 series vs my current, the insides feel cheap in comparison (above poster mentioned some engine issues that I haven't heard of yet, which may change things). In an ideal world I'd want the Model S Tesla, but for $80k that's just out of the question. There's limited info on the Model 3 for 2017 but hearing it's in the $35k range, 20% smaller than model s, makes me want to keep my current 328i and wait for it

I do think I need 4 doors with baby on the way, been considering the 4 series Gran Coupe, maybe mercedes E class, maybe the audi a5-a6, any recommendations?

Keep the 328i and wait for the Model 3 imo. I think you already know that's the wisest choice. What year/package/miles is on the 328i?

BMW 328 wagon. M-Sport package.

Otherwise if cost is so much of an issue, don't look at any European cars.

Yeah been leaning that way recently...hope it's similar to the model s with 200 miles+ range. 2013 328i M sport/Tech Package/Lighting package, however it's getting up there in miles 41k now, so prob buying it out so I don't have to pay bmw over mileage fees ($.16/mile). I negotiated well on my lease so my residual at lease due ($26k) is definitely high than the car is worth ($23k recently appraised at carmax) so I'm a bit stuck on what to do...either buy it out or return it at lease end to BMW paying around $1k in overmileage fees but I'm done with the car. I'm looking at negative equity regardless at this point, recommendations?

Get a used BMW at Carmax for $20k.

Yeah, it's a tough call. 20K is going to get you roughly 2010-2011 E92. I guess he'd have to ask himself if the F30 is worth the 5-6K premium. His F30 should still have the balance of a warranty and no-maintenance left so there is some added value there. Me personally, if someone said 5K and I get a car several years newer, still some left on the warranty, new body style and a more efficient/more powerful motor? I'd pay the 5K.

BMW does a real good job of pegging their residuals (I've leased 2 prior to my current car). That 26K residual is about what a used one of that year goes on the used market. Carmax offering 23K is about right. 10-12% below their own listing price...they gotta make money.

@ Lakersftw - Do you have a beater/backup vehicle? If so, I'd probably drive it until a steal of a deal pops up and believe me they do. I bought my 2007 E92 coupe in 2010. "Blue Book" had it pegged at 28K and the dealer had it listed "on sale" for 25.5K. I offered 23K via email and she accepted, albeit my family has a long relationship with Valencia BMW. When I got there, I had the carfax in hand and it showed fender damage. Car was mint and had it inspected. Ended up 21.5 + tax. Point is the deals are there to be had if you're patient. Before I made this purchase, I had turned in my previous lease and borrowed my brother's beater for 4 months until the right car came along.

Just in my experience with BMWs...a boatload of them are leased for 30-36 months. You'll see a huge jump in the # of 2013's available in 2016. Guarantee it.

BMW doesn't do a good job keeping residuals.

I've appraised over 7000 cars.

Just get a used BMW 530, have the kids make a mess, and worry about a hot ride later.

I mean I know they're not as fun, but Lexus holds value, easily the best of the luxury market. It's not even close.
