Hope they manage to end it on as high a note as it started with.

They could have ended the series with Bert Cooper singing "The Best Things in Life Are Free" and Id be happy.

Jon Hamm completed alcohol rehab just in time to promote the final season.

If it wasn't for a preview on NPR, I wouldn't even know the show was about to start. I can't really say what exactly it is, but the show has lost something over the years. But I'll watch out of loyalty.

The show has been great, aside from a few weaker subplots. Still the best characters and dialogue on TV. I've been binge watching the entire series all week. Seasons 1-4 are pretty flawless. Seasons 5 and 6 were a bit slow at times but had some strong episodes, particularly at the end. Matthew Weiner is brilliant.

I can't wait to see how it ends. Apparently Jon Hamm has known the ending for 4 years.

I think they must have tried to actively control the hype (though they have been running that neat ad campaign on AMC that plays during Better Call Saul's commercials). That, combined with the fact that the end has been a slow burn drawn out over two years, has prevented something akin to Breaking Bad S5. Also I think I read somewhere that the show lost a decent chunk of ratings and funding somewhere around season 5, but I could be wrong.

Didn't know that about Hamm; good to know he's out. He's looked a bit haggard the past few seasons, beyond what usual aging would do to a person (sort of like Chandler in Friends).

I thought the premiere was really good. Definitely held my attention more than the openings to S6 and S7 (can we just call this S8?)

Mm was always about atmosphere, style, and period nostalgia. They did it really well, and had a nice run.

Agree with the above ... I also think the casting managed to result in some awesomely iconic roles for previously obscure (by mainstream measures, I guess) talent. Perhaps more than other shows with similar runs, I think a lot of the MM cast will find great challenge in breaking free of the yoke this show has indirectly placed upon them ...

Don Draper getting plenty of tail this season.
Isn't that life, you're swimming in it when you can't appreciate it. Maybe that's part of the equation. Maybe the women are attracted to his emotional unavailability.

I read a few good quotes on IMDB:

"Don is only happy when he's miserable, and thus, he's finally happy."

"Don is a fan of the chase. While he gets as many bimbos as he wants, he never gets the ones he REALLY wants (Rachel)."

"Ken's book is going to star a fictional version of Don."

Best place for Mad Men reviews is here: http://tomandlorenzo.com/2015/04/mad-men-severance/

In the comment section: some speculation about the red wine (blood) being spilled on Don's carpet and his hallucinations perhaps being tied to syphilis. Then again, many thought Megan was going to die in a similar fashion to Sharon Tate last season...

Is Peggy ever gonna tell Pete about their child?
Maybe she forgot about it since her mom is doing the parenting.
If we see her child again I bet it's close to being a teenager, alot of time has passed.

I feel like everyone has. Just wiki'd it. Guess she already told him seasons ago. It's crazy that it all got swept under a rug.
Wonder if Pete and Peggy will get back together at the series finale.

P.S. Can't believe Don wrote a million dollar check.

That kind of pissed me off. Then again, money never seemed to bring him happiness anyways.

I love the series, I remember people from my childhood who resemble some of these characters. I have a feeling I am the perfect target of the writers. Funny my mom won't watch because people on the show are always smoking. She seems to forget that when she was in that time, everyone we knew was always smoking.

Pete and Peggy have shared moments over the years that implicitly reference their past, but it's true, it hasn't been touched on in awhile, even when Peggy was a mother figure to that boy in her building, you think it would have brought an opportunity in the storyline.

This past episode was not very good. Didn't get why Meghan and Don's relationship needed such a prominent closur. I was OK with her just being left in LA and him back in NY.

One of the writers must be very attached to the Megan character...that's the only way I can explain that kind of lapse in judgement...

Is one of the writers Harry Crane?

It's as if Weiner is trying to give every character a final send off. We saw Ken's last week. Megan this week. We even got to see alot more of Stan's life outside the office.

Yeah. I don't get that personally. It wasn't the ancillary characters that made the show, it's Don. I don't really care if Stan (bleep) a famous artist or not.

Caught up by watching the last two episodes. It seems the closer to the end we get, the more I crave the show. Such brilliance to push us to feel such empathy for such a scoundrel as Don Draper.

Loved the line from Olberman at the end of the show:

"I'll miss . . . the spectrum of these marvelously nuanced characters who live, as in all great art, in a moral ambiguity."

A good read: Don's Long Goodby

I feel the same way.
Last night's episode was great.

Sally Draper has been the voice of judgment and reason for seasons now.
Kinda reminds me of Lisa Simpson on Simpsons.

I like Sally's character waaaaaaay more than the bratty daugher on The Americans.

This might be the best season of mad men. 2/3 the way through this weeks episode.
