how bout Doug Collins as the new lakers HC?

How about Phil Collins? I have a feeling he will run them into the ground though and they'll have blisters on the soles of their feet. On the other hand maybe, just maybe, it can be another day in paradise.

Love that idea. The only thing about him is the way that he walks.

For next year? Byron is the best choice as much as I dislike him. There is little coaching that will probably happen next year.

I'm more concerned about the season after next year coaching wise.
Thats probably when we give somebody like KD the option to pick his coach. By that time, Ollie might be ready to make the jump to the NBA.

Right. I'm viewing next year as a throw away year of sorts. Don't want a coaching change for that.

When we're ready to wipe the slate clean and start anew, I think a change at the helm makes a whole lot of sense.

He's already the coach, at least when he's there.

Here's a head coaching name I haven't seen thrown around here: Sam Cassell.

Thoughts?

My pick too. Everyone else on that list is 2nd tier or lower.

Keep Scott until we have a group of players who can take it to the next level if they have a quality coaching situation.

Jerry Sloan, but he might be too old now. Sloan did a great job coaching Stockton/Malone; Lakers have a nice pg/pf combo in Clarkson and Randle. No, I'm not saying Clarkson and Randle are Stockton/Malone.

Why not see how Scott and the players actually do before we decide his fate? Seems like many of you have already made up your minds.

Why would you still fire him if the team is playing well and responding to him as a HC next year. For example if he has the young rebuilding team playing hard and improve by 15-20 games next year. Is he still fired?

If Clarkson continues to improve? If Randle and the rookies are thriving under his leadership then why fire him and start over with a new HC and systems?

If the team flounders and team chemistry sucks I see the wisdom. But until that time can we be patient enough to begin to build something again. To instill some continuity and team chemistry.

I'd like to know his philosophies more, but he seems well respected. My top 4 for fresh face coaches is (not really in order):

Madsen
Ollie
Cassell
Walton

Thibs is the correct answer. If it hadn't been for Derrick Rose's unfortunate injuries the Bulls may have a championship with Thibs right now.

What's Bernie up to? If the answer is "death" that would hardly disqualify him.

This. If there is ONE thing BS has done well it's keep these young guys hungry, focused, and improving. I'd say that has been his biggest strength so far and he will and deserves one more season. Once Kobe is gone, I think any and all moves are fair.
