I was just talking to someone about the Pau trade to the Lakers, and he said that it was the most lopsided trade he can remember. He says that what Marc became can't factor into the trade grade because it was unkowns at that time.
Having said that, how many stars have been traded, and that team ended up getting an all-star player in return? I will leave out that he was also DPOY. That would probably end up being 0. |

Hmm, I think the Kareem trade is up there too.
Elmore Smith was the best player going to Milwaukee and he was an 11/11 guy.
Kareem that year was in his athletic prime at 27 years age. 30 points/14 rebounds/4assists/3 blocks!
Granted, the Bucks got other players but that was the quintessential trade of a dollar for a handful of dimes and nickels. |

Teams make trades based on need. From what I remember the Grizzlies wanted prospects at the time, so it worked out for them. I guess some fans don't understand that not all front offices want to win now, they will take the short term downturn in losses to accomplish a bigger set goal in mind. |

And they only got 1 draft pick (Austin Rivers). He's still on the Pelicans, he was the teams 5th highest scorer this season. _________________ SCHROEDER/CARUSO/COOK

Lopsided:
Wilt for Archie Clark, forward Jerry Chambers and center Darrall Imhoff
Kareem for Junior Bridgeman, Dave Meyers, Elmore Smith and Brian Winters
All-stars traded for each other:
Charles Barkley for Jeff Hornacek
Danny Manning for Domique Wilkins
Jason Kidd for Marbury
Ray Allen for Gary Payton
Dwight Howard for Andrew Bynum
Chris Gatling for Terrell Brandon
Allen Iverson for Chauncey Billups
... and many others |

Marc was the favorite for the spanish league mvp (which he won) that year, so he was projecting upwards, but you can either look at trades as "worst at the time" or "worst in hindsight"
In hindsight, there's always fun ones, the baron davis and what would be the #1 pick for mo williams, okc's sacrifice of a dynasty for crap and philly's portion of the dwight howard trade, the latter 2 probably qualify for "at tme time" too, but they tend to be a little rarer. _________________ I believe everything the media tells me except for anything for which I have direct personal knowledge, which they always get wrong |

I think that Memphis did know how good Marc gasol was, or they had an inkling. He was living with Pau and going to school in Memphis. I don't think he was a stranger to the griz. |

The Gasol trade being called lopsided is really an uninformed opinion. LA gave up picks, Crittenton (a recent first rounder at the time), Marc Gasol, and Kwame Brown (among the largest expiring contracts at that deadline).
If you compare that to what the Nuggets gave up for Iverson, Memphis got quite a haul. Considering that Memphis fell back that year and eventually got Mike Conley and that the cap space led to Randolph, I would contend that this was a perfect trade for Memphis.
Of course it also worked out for LA and that's all people seem to remember.... |
