So, Looking at the three dynasties we've enjoyed over the years, I'm curious which team people would rank as the best. I'll go with these choices for the purposes of this poll

1986-1987 Lakers 65-17 RS, 15-3 Playoffs. Major players: Magic age 27, Worthy age 25, Scott age 25, KAJ age 39, AC Green age 23, Coop 30, Thompson 32, Rambis 28

2000-2001 Lakers 56-26 RS, 15-1 Playoffs. Major Players: Kobe 22, Shaq 28, Ho Grant 35, Fox 31, Shaw 34, Horry 30, Rider 29, Harper 37, Fish 26

2008-2009 Lakers 65-17 RS, 16-7 Playoffs. Major Players:Kobe 30, Gasol 28, LO 29, Fish 34, Bynum 21, Ariza 23, Farmar 22, Luke 28, Sasha 24, Vlad 28

Three incredible teams, different eras, I'll go with 2008-2009 mainly because of the three headed monster in the front court and a much deeper bench than the other two teams.

2000-2001 Lakers, Kobe and a prime Shaq. Nuff said.

Shaq in his prime was the single most dominant player to ever step on a basketball court. It's a shame he was so lazy because the dude could've been the greatest of all time if he had the work ethic like Kobe or Magic.

I'm with the 2000-01 Lakers for the reason stated above. People forget the solid supporting cast too:

Fisher, Fox, George, Ho Grant, Harper, Horry, Shaw...that's 9 deep.

That 86-87 team was sick too, but I don't think they beat the 2000-01 team in a 7 game series.

Kobe and Shaq were unstoppable that year.

Also, I personally would take 2010 Lakers over 2009

Might also take an earlier showtime team

I'd drop the 08-09 team off the list because their playoff record simply doesn't stand up against the other two teams.

2000-2001 and not even close.

I also think bench play is a little overrated during playoff time.

If you have the best starting lineup in the league like we had in each of our championship runs sure it is.

My personal fav team is the 2008-2009 team. I just love the way they played the whole year. That was a team on a mission for revenge.

But 2000-2001 was the best NBA basketball team ever assembled. They literally only lost 1 game in the playoffs. And I attribute that to the rust of not playing for awhile while waiting on the 76ers to finish their series

An in-his-prime Shaq would cause so much damage to a 39 y.o. KAJ or the Bynum/Pau tandem. All would foul out.

Yup. Bench depth is more valuable in the regular season.

The 2008-2009 team was good, but it wasn't dominant.

The Shaq+Kobe era was just pure and utter dominance.

86-87 Lakers and it's not even close. That Lakers team would outrun you and if/when they had to go half court Cap, Magic, and Worthy would be posting all over the place. Coop slows Kobe just enough to bring his efficiecy down and Shaq would be gassed by the tempo of the game and get into foul trouble.

the 1999-2000 Team should be in there. 67 Wins. A hungry Shaq/Fro' Kobe who had westbrook like athleticism. Glen Rice for 3!

2000-2001 Lakers.
They basically steamrolled thru the playoffs and if it wasn't for Iverson's exceptional game 1 in the Finals, they would've been undefeated in their championship run.

Oooooh tough one. Hard to beat a prime Shaq and Kobe with their supporting cast but I think I'll take Magic, Cap, Big Game James & Mychal Thompson. With Cooper and Byron to boot? That 86-87 team was stacked. It isn't fair.

00-01...they dealt with injuries all year and still ended up 56-26. Then steamrolled some excellent teams in the playoffs to go 15-1.

I think the 86 Lakers would win in 6 games. Shaq would get his 30, but he would also have to guard Kareem. Shaq really didn't have to guard any great centers during the 3peat. Kobe against Worthy, Scott, and Cooper would be tough. Then you have the Magic vs Fisher matchup, Magic would easily win that one. The 86 Lakers would have too much advantages over the Shaq/Kobe Lakers.

1987 Lakers is my favorite team of all time. I also happen to think they're the greatest. Greatest point guard of all time and the greatest center of all time (yeah he was old so what, he still dominated the Celtics both in '85 and '87, not too shabby). On top of that you had Worthy who was a matchup nightmare and DPOY in Coop who won it as your sixth man. Ultra electric offense, and a defense that wasn't dominant but had a knack for getting timely stops. Beautiful team.

Yeah it's hard not to come back to that number. That team lost a single playoff game (in overtime!!). That kind of dominance is just so rare.

Interesting that the 89 team was undefeated coming into detroit and might have run the table if Scott and Magic don't go down.

For me though, the 87 team is tops. Make no mistake, nothing the threepeat Lakers faced touches the 80's celts.

That 2000-2001 Lakers team can legit take on the 1996 Bulls and come out on top in a 7 game series.

Certinly the best 1-2 punch, but quickly drops off after that relative to some of the other great teams. Would that be enough? Maybe. Depends on the rules to some degree.

It does depend on how Prime Shaq would deal with Zone defense of today.
