In the Eastern Conference.

Stupid poll & thread that should be LOCKED.

There is ZERO chance the Lakers especially Jim Buss & Mitch are going to fire Byron Scott and hire Scott Brooks.

Laker managment want stability right now in the head coach.

First of all the question was not what the Lakers would do (if you notice).

It was instead asking an opinion from the board as to what people think here at LG.

So on that basis I'm not sure why it's such a "stupid poll" actually.

It seems a reasonable question to ask it would seem considering that Brooks is out of a job and as unlikely as it is the Lakers would dump Byron after just one year with all the injuries the Lakers had it is still a possibility based on just the fact that Brooks is out of work. And again YES, we all know it's near ZERO chance the Lakers would be interested and not just because of Byron and the "stability" argument but arguably because Brooks isn't that good either.

This is a discussion forum after all and it is off-season for the Lakers now so what's really the problem with the poll when you think about it?

TO be fair, that NJ squad had barely any competition. The east was incredibly weak back then, probably more than it is now. There were no top tier teams during that time.

The East in that era is the gold standard for worse conference ever.

Back then it took 42 wins to make the 8th seed in the east. Nowadays, that gives you 6th seed out east. 38 Wins - 44 Losses gets you the 8th seed in 2015.

Right now, the East is the gold standard for worst conference ever. Not back then.

Savvy observers recognize the fact that Byron is nothing more than a placeholder at the moment. When we're ready to contend again, he'll be gone. For those who think that he is a good coach, all you need to know is that he literally doesn't even care about new age analytics. I could see a coach that preaches tough defense and old school concepts, but you have to be willing to listen to all information that is available to you and to be able to adjust with the times. That's what good leaders and smart people do. Scott Brooks definitely held OKC back--and yet he is a better coach than Byron is without any question. The fact that Byron got a team to the Finals is irrelevant because it was eons ago. That's like saying that Bill Callahan was a good NFL coach because he got his team to a Super Bowl. And while I certainly don't think that even a great coach would've made a big difference with this Lakers squad this season, it's worth noting that Byron has one of the worst winning percentages of any coach in NBA history. I greatly respect his history with this organization but he is not a good head basketball coach.
