Great player who helped the Lakers become the team they are. Both by helping them win in the early 70s, and by being traded to the Jazz, netting us the pick that eventually became Magic Johnson.

The lost art of the mid-range jump shot... Gail Goodrich's 15 footer was deadly.

I loved him, he was absolutely instrumental in getting the Lakers their only title during the West, Chamberlain & Baylor era (though yes, Baylor wasn't really a part of that '72 team).

Still... glad he defected to the New Orleans Jazz.

Yup. As good as he was, his greatest contribution to la was the compensatory pick for him leaving that became magic.

The backcourt of Stumpy and West was unbelievable, they averaged 52 points per game for a season, with Stumpy averaging slightly more than West. That was the team that brought the first L A basketball championship 1972.

As good as Curry and Thompson have been they are not close to West and Stumpy in points per game for a season. Sometimes we forget how great past players were.

as was his ability to finish around the rim. He had no fear among the giants. Each time Floppy Fish missed a layup, I always think Stumpy would have made it.

We have been blessed to have so many talented guards wear the Laker uniform. West, Goodrich, Magic, Nixon, Cooper, Scott, Jones, Fisher, Kobe (...and hopefully Clarkson one day). What an amazing legacy. Happy birthday to #25.
