Too many to list will likely get their max this offseason.

Logically probably only Leonard and Jordan. Realistically, all of them are worth the max.

Dragic. I don't think Monroe gets it.

Marc Gasol of course.

Lebron

Gasol

Leonard

Draymond Green

Butler.

Everyone else is not worth it.

Jordan can't shoot FT
Love is injury prone
Dragic isn't good enough
Aldridge is soft

Jordan
Gasol

Aldridge
Love

Leonard

and those should be it for the true Max players.

Dragic might be one, Monroe might be one but only due to cap raise next year. Forgot about Butler, added as a potential Max due to cap raise

I cannot believe the career earnings of some of these players ...

For max. deals this Summer (excl. LeBron and others who are "technically" FA), I would imagine these six have the inside track:

Marc Gasol
LaMarcus Aldridge
Kawhi Leonard
Kevin Love
Jimmy Butler
DeAndre Jordan

I have Draymond Green solidly below that tier ... like everyone else on that GS roster, I think he benefits immeasurably from having so many distractions swirling around on his end of the court ...

And then everyone else ...

MAX:

Marc Gasol
Lamarcus Aldridge
Kawhi Leonard

Not sold on giving it to Goran Dragic.
Yes he is an excellent point guard. Could easily go off for 20-30 points a game. Only issue I have with him is that he gets torched alot as well. It goes under the radar mainly with us because were always too busy watching him drop 35 on our Lakers.

Same can be said about Rondo and Draymond Green.
It's evident Rondo has never been the same after his acl injury. An Draymond imo could be fool's gold and just a product of the Warrior's system.

Honorable Mention MAX player:

Jimmy Butler

SOLID.

Tobias Harris and Khris Middleton?

Heck no. Not saying I wouldn't want them, but at the max? Nope.

For this team right now (assuming we end up drafting Justice), the only player that is worth it is Butler.

Lebron can't opt out and get the max unless Love bolts. Cleveland doesn't have bird rights and they would need cap room. So ironically, Love leaving lets James get a new 1 & 1.

Teams who spend foolishly rarely win in the league.
Team who spend smart and on the right players at the right time - win.

Now that's a general statement but it applies in the new era that everyone anticipates. Loads of spending? Average salary jumping? Ok. Even in the no max era and era when the Knicks were signing everyone and anyone - Dr Buss and Jerry West built their core mostly through the draft and paid the big fish that was worth it.

I don't care about what other teams are going to do. We still need to approach it as if we want to sign players that can be a part of a ring team within 2-3 years. Any other attitude is calling for further mediocrity.

Of course, spending foolishly is by definition a bad idea. But the question is...what is foolish in the current climate? There was still a salary cap in the no max era, so I'm not sure what you're getting at on that point.

IMO, the right way to judge it is the percentage of the salary cap that a player takes up.

Just stay away from Kevin Love. It doesn't make sense on multiple levels.

This is a loaded question, and I'm not sure the OP realizes it.

This offseason, is the offseason before a humongous cap raise. Next offseason free agency will be abnormally competitive. Most estimates I've seen has the cap jumping 20-25 mill.

If you want a certain FA, now is the year to "overpay". If it's a long term contract you can make out like salary cap bandits when we look back year 2017 and beyond.

I'm starting to cringe every time I read the word "max." It doesn't mean the same thing for every player, but people talk about it like it does.

The thing is.. this isn't a secret from the players or the agents. I'm pretty sure you'll see a lot of two year player option contracts this off-season.

I could see some role players MAYBE securing long term deals.. but the premier free agents? I'd be surprised.

That's how I feel about the words elite and assets.
