I know there's a Clipper/Rocket thread, so merge if need be - I think we need a thread specifically covering how bad the Rockets are.

Length, athleticism, shooting, a guy who has the refs in his pocket - they have everything they need to win. Except heart. And brains. And a coach.

I'll admit that James Harden is grossly overrated, however. The Clippers decide to trap him so he becomes absolutely invisible. Totally incapable of exerting any of his will on the game. He's the anti-Kobe.

Ah, the NBA Playoffs, where every game becomes the defining moment of the players' careers, until the next game.

They are a team that a prime Phil Jackson/Tex would turn into a dynasty.

Not sure about dynasty but 1-2 rings for sure.
Houston have elite talent but brains of preschoolers.

yes, vegas. great point.
this is what I'm calling the "new NBA".
To me, it just doesn't appear consistent, and it originates from the very flexible officiating that goes on. Anything can be called at any time and there can be some justification for it. So it's this vague hodge podge of enforcement on the court, and as a result, the gameplay is weird.

Like, one game, Harden is just bulldozing and throwing himself around and it's working out great, playing like an MVP. Then, another game he does the same things and there is no success. But it's not really because he didn't do it as well, just the officiating was different.

I was laughing at the chris paul buzzer beater recently. There were like 5 fouls that went uncalled on that play, on both sides! CP3 was pushing off a couple of times (a la MJ vs Byron Russell), the spurs were clawing at him and making contact. It made for a great moment, but what are you to say about all that? This goes on throughout the game, it's just whatever. Best thing players can do is just play through it all. But for the fans, it can be a little frustrating as we like to have some kind of consistent understanding of what we are seeing.

The Brewer flop was rank. And he was proud of it. Those wanton flopping whore plays cast a negative light on today's NBA. I'm sure the 5K fine will hit him hard though.

Actually the biggest problem for the Rockets right now is defense. They are allowing a ton of points and even when CP3 was out they still allowed way too many points.

I look at their lineup and think they are stacked, yet nada. Clippers are destroying them. Also have to admit that this is THE ONLY series where I find myself actually rooting for the Clippers

Agreed that the right coach would help a lot but every time I see Dwight play, I am convinced he has no heart. He can get you 24-15 of meaningless production out of him and wait to hear him complain that the team isn't built to maximize his production in crunch time. Have I ever seen Dwight get mad during crunch time and try to take the game over?? Hell, I have seen Austin Rivers do that more than Dwight.

I am hoping that the Clippers win this series 4-1 and that Dwight can, ONCE AGAIN, be exposed for the weak minded player we all know him to be.

Dwight is actually playing harder than most of his teammates IMO. That's not saying much though. Houston doesn't seem to want this enough.

I am really surprised at how bad the Rockets looked in these 3 games. And they make guys like JJ Barea and Austin Rivers look much better than they are. And I'm not just talking about Rivers 25 points in game 3. He had 17 points in game 1. Imagine if Chris Paul was actually healthy.

How many preschooler brains have won 1-2 rings with a great coach? I find it unlikely Phil wins with these two as his leaders. Kobe, Shaq, Lebron, Wade, Tim Duncan, Tony Parker, Chauncy Billups, Dirk, KG, Pierce, Ray Allen, MJ, Olajuwon, I could keep going. Guys are all pretty tough mentally.

I need more popcorn. Only thing better than Coward going down is Coward dragging McHale down with him.

Severely overrating James Harden here to say Jackson can lead that team to a dynasty.

Dwight is a flawed offensive player but elite defensively. Maybe if you can turn him back into Orlando Dwight, you can win a ring. But you are still lacking in a lot of areas. There is only one guy who can consistently create for himself on the wing and that's Harden who has a very subpar midrange game. Other than that? The whole team is 3 and D guys. It's an unbalanced team. Who is the second playmaker? Who is your team leader? Where does your passing come from if Harden's struggling?

It's a flawed team that goes beyond just not wanting it enough.

Rockets have it all: Dwight Coward, a former Boston thug as a coach, a fake star who is a master of flopping and whose game lives and dies by the whistle, a douche fat-face GM who might die of a heart attack if he actually played the sport.

Houston upgraded going from Parson-->Ariza. That's the crazy thing.

Naming their issues off the top of my head:

1) Jason Terry isn't a point guard, he's a short shooting guard. And he's a 6th man, spark off the bench. Not a starter.

2) Howard isn't a go-to scorer. Never has been, never will be.

3) James Harden has to minimize all his teammates to be effective. Reminds me of Lebron in the sense that, everyone has to bend around him.
Harden needs to develop an off ball game. Can't just try to do the same thing every game. That ish works in the season, but not the playoffs. In the playoffs you play the best teams repetitively. You have to be versatile if your going to lead your team past the best.

They need to not be injured (same as everyone really), having your starting matchup of both the opponents best players out injured never ends up going well, their season was basically over the moment the 2nd starter was announced out for season.

They need a second (and probably third) player who can create off the dribble

Their defensive chemistry is shot because they really haven't played much at all together.

The word pathetic is used too loosely.

I think that you have to credit the Clippers. The Clippers are a solid team.

The key will be the Clipper's bench.

Rockets are a good team and are showing its weakness in the playoffs.

The Lakers are pathetic..
