So as my Co-workers and I sat through a long-winded and completely unnecessary conference call today, we began fantasizing about the "road not taken."
Being height challenged I never pursued my dream of being in the NBA. Sure guys like Spud Webb, made me look like an underachieving turd, but it just wasn't realistic. I also wanted to write in some capacity, but there wasn't an opportunity for me to sit back and let bills pile up while I waited for a "break".
Life happens and things don't always work out as planned, so we do our best to make do... What did you guys/gals aspire or dream of doing when you were kids? And did anyone actually end up doing it? _________________ "Dread it, run from it... destiny arrives all the same."
I wanted to be a Disney animator. I'm currently freelancing as an illustrator so, my dreams are currently in the works. I decided to move out and have a family so, I had to put my dreams on hold for a few years. I'm slowly getting back into it.
1) To one day kick my dad in the nuts and live to see another sunrise. (Mission accomplished )
2) I basically wanted to be Marco Polo. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. I wanted to be an NBA player too(more specifically, a Laker). My dream died pretty early because I was(and still am) god awful at basketball, I possess zero athletic ability, and I've always been pretty skinny and have had difficulty in gaining muscle.
When I was a kid, my greatest aspiration was to be a grown up. When I grew up, I wished I was a kid again.
In terms of careers, the path not taken for me was accounting. I do not regret it. If I had it all to do over again with the benefit of 20/20 hindsight, I'd think long and hard about chemistry/chemical engineering. I had the aptitude for it, and generally it is a lot less stressful and demoralizing than law. But I find it boring, which is why I never seriously considered that path at the time.

Be glad that you did not. Accounting is boring, chemical engineering is intellectually appealing but as healthy as chain-smoking.
I had a few small stints in some game companies doing minor stuff, but ended up on another path.
I worked as a Marketing Manager for a bank.
...but then the economy tanked.
So I went back to art and graphics and did better this time around. Sure, I get around 1/3 as much as I did when I worked in banking, but I'm generally a lot happier now.
