Quote: | Though they didn’t quite win the lottery on Tuesday, the Lakers were the big victor once the ping-pong balls were processed. Not only did the Lakers avoid the disaster that would have followed if they’d fallen to No. 6, but by landing at No. 2, Los Angeles also is that much more attractive as a potential free-agent destination this summer.
That’s according to player representatives who will have major free agents on the market this summer.
“I think it is something that helps out their sales pitch in a big, big way,” one agent told Sporting News. “The past couple of years, their pitch has sort of been, ‘Come play for us because we’re the Lakers and the weather is nice.’ That’s not enough. You’ve seen that. They have not had a direction, and that’s why players don’t want to go there.” |

Apparently one agent told Sean Deavney that players don't want to sign with L.A. cause they don't want to see Kobe shoot 50 times..... any marquee FA that signs this summer will have the input on the post-Kobe era. |

That's obvious. Randle, Clarkson, #2 pick and another max slot in '16 will be attractive to any FA. And that's without even mentioning that it's the L.A. Lakers. |

The PR hurricane has switched quickly with the bounce of the #2 ball.
Of course Towns/Okafor/Russell will help attract FAs. This once ancient, decaying team is now full of youth and good contracts (even Kobes 25mil is an expiring).
The Lakers are in an excellent position going forward, the #2 pick is just the shimmer!!! _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |

I think reading that article gives me the Impression that some of the FAs would be willing to take a paycut to come play for the Lakers next year so that would give us the flexibility to add more pieces to the roster. |

I remember a lot of posters were crapping on the Lakers this past season because of our crappy season....I guess we can laugh at them now. Not only did we keep the pick, we got the #2 pick, and we have tons of flexibility for the future. |

Not that this article is very relevant but we got so lucky yesterday boys. Once again props to the positive dudes out there keeping faith all the way. I tend to be easily pessimistic when luck is involved. |

I think if the Lakers put up a competitive team again
also, if Kobe can stays healthy, I feel like he might want to continue to play longer. |

I think your thread headline is overselling what the story actually says. I'd change your thread to:
Report: Lakers now have defined direction to help pitch FAs |

Don't see how you got that from the article. I don’t see any free agents giving a discount. |

Sign Butler, Middleton or Harris this year, sign Kevin Durant the season after.
I love it when a plan comes together. |
Trying to go back to the LOTS of small forward days? |

Good to hear, free agency is going to either put us at 35 wins or 45 wins next season. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

I agree. I think he may try to play until 40 to chase that last ring especially if Westbrook or KD comes. _________________ #11/08/16 America became GREAT again

Nothing pleases me more than knowing philly goes from a potential lotto pick from us to at best a mid first next year.
