Simple question ? I know we have an opt in clause, but how does that work ?

Yes. They could exercise their option and trade him.

I'm guessing other teams would rather let Hill expire (we won't pick up his option) and steal him. As opposed to trading one of their own assets to get him.

Already tried trading him and drew blanks. Nobody wants him at that contract. Better to just let him walk.

I don't think you can trade FAs during the draft.

I'd be shocked they could trade him if they couldn't during the mid-season trade deadline.

Yup. He isn't a viable trade asset.

I don't think you could get an exception for him, so I think you're looking at an incoming $10 million dollar salary. That's baggage for no reason.

Renounce him and move on.

He won't be a FA until we decline his option

I think he's tradeable. I think people want him. I think the problem is that the Lakers didn't want to take back salary.

I think it makes so much more sense to decline his overpaid option now. He's gotten 2 years worth of pay in 1 year.

Also his defense is atrocious and he's not playing the hustle game we expect from him. He was supposed to be our Rodman, but half-hearted Rodman should leave.

No, the FO will wait until they have to just in case a deal develops

Jordan hill is a decent player who is injured way too much. It's his style of play. but that's what makes him attractive.. mitch'll see who he can land in FA and dump him if the right piece is available

If they couldn't trade him at the deadline for peanuts, they sure wouldn't be able to trade him now. Plus, most teams know we're not going to exercise his option so they could get him for less $

Since the Lakers don't have to take back salaries and Hill is only on a 1 year deal, i think a contending team might go for it. We're not going to get much in return though... probably a 2nd round pick. Better than nothing since we won't exercise his option anyhow.

Problem is that LA has to match salaries if they do the trade before July if the other team doesn't have 9 mil in cap room.

But Jordan Hill is the best offensive rebounder in the league!

What are some of the possible trade targets if the Lakers trade Hill before July 1?

Would be fitting if DJ went to the Mavs and the clippers thought they were stealing him from us

Something like a player and a future 2nd rounder may work. But right now the Lakers have lots of "projects"; Randle, Clarkson, maybe Brown, 2-3 picks... it may be to many guys to develop at one point in time..

Any one of the four remaining teams could use him as a valuable bench piece (6th or 7th man). His salary is only for one more year, and there's the increase in cap coming. They can probably keep him for a new contact at 6 mil per..

I don't think the Lakers will mess with having a max slot, meaning they have to take back nonguaranteed salaries. Not sure who has those and needs Hill.

But he is an experienced PF and if not resign Boozer there will be not much
experience at PF and also C.

The whole team needs a pass from the bad tank year.

But on a good team Hill can be a valuable asset.
