If Kobe has another down year in terms of his health can't see him want to go another season like that. However if he is able to play 70'games and average 22-4 or better, I could see him want to stay another season.

I think Mitch's intention is to steer away any notion for a FA that they would be playing in Kobes shadow longterm.
