The number of 2nd overall picks that have failed to live up to being a 2nd overall pick is rather eye opening. |

We have two excellent big men to pick from; we won't have to sing, "We got Thabeet, we got Thabeet, we got Thabeet!" |

Be good to have the "jackass" GM who picked some of these 2nd picks, right next to their names _________________ Starting Lakers Dynasty6.0! NOW!!

not all drafts are equal, and not all GMs/FOs are equal.
To me the most important list is what guys the Lakers pick in the lotto.
Most, if not all panned out. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Odd coincidence of people who died young with that three year stretch. |

List of # 3 players that became greatest player of all time or at least in top 3 all time
1984 MJ
Avg age of #2 pick probably younger now than in Stipanovich days....more uncertainty? #1 picks list has a couple Olowokandi's and the like. |

This is a great list so that everyone can see that the draft is just like playing roullete. So, in the last 35 years the #2 pick has produced I'd say 5 real difference-makers. That sounds about right to me because I've been watching basketball a long time and there have been sooooo many players that looked great in college, then became busts in the NBA. I know Towns & Okafor are the favorites, but you need someone with a keen eye to be able to determine the true diamond in the draft....it's risky business, which is why I'm generally not in favor of building a team this way. But we'll see! |

Which is why one should look at the LAKERS' lotto draft history (30 past years)
Magic
Worthy
EJones
Bynum
Randle
I think we don't F it up like the other teams on the list above. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals |

Not really. There are a handful of HOF level players in that list. There are busts too, but there are busts with any pick. |

John Ireland made a pretty convincing case with this information yesterday on his show. But I'm still determined to keep the pick and role the dice. The main reason is because, who would you rather have:
Okafor / Towns, Clarkson, Randle +3 max contract free agents
or
Clarkson, Randle +3 max contract free agents.
Trading that pick costs us one of our max contract slots. We basically have nothing to lose and everything to gain by keeping the pick. _________________ Don't make me give you a trout slap! |

I'm not really a fan of using past history in this kind of situation. I'd rather just focus on this year's prospects and trust the Lakers to pick a good player. |

This might be the best year ever to have the #2 pick. Two centers who both appear worthy of being a #1 pick and neither is clearly better than the other (unlike Shaq vs. Mourning). These guys have already displayed a high skill level at the college level. They aren't raw projects being drafted on perceived potential like Thabeet or Milicic. I feel very confident we'll be getting a solid pro at the least. |

Basing the past history of #2 picks and projecting it on how the #2 pick will turn out this year is just superstition. |

Every draft pick is a gamble.
I think one thing that people overlook is that some teams SUCK at evaluating and developing talent.
It's not a coincidence you see tend to see the same teams at picking up busts with high draft picks more than once. |

Yep, I love how people put lists out there without showing the GM's who picked them........a rather critical piece of information people seem to ignore. |
