The Lakers are apparently ready to overhaul their front court, given some free agent options and now the No. 2 overall pick in June’s NBA Draft, and that means two well-known players could soon be out of Lakerland, including Jordan Hill.
Hill is just 27 years old, and he did play in 70 games last season for the Lakers. Hill led the Lakers in rebounds per game (7.9) last season, and he doesn’t turn the ball over very often. However, popular belief around the league is that the Lakers will indeed not bring Hill back for next season and save $9 million. As good of a teammate as Hill is, and as valuable off the bench as he can be, the Lakers have to go in a different direction when it comes to their big men.
The Lakers are also reportedly looking at dealing 7-footer Robert Sacre, given his expiring contract, small salary and potential, which could bring value in a trade. |

I wonder if the Raptors want him or the Cavs still interested in trading for him. |

Hill I believe is gone, but why trade Sacre? He's on a cheap contract and our new rookie big will need a back-up. |

Because we have Tarik Black, likely Ed Davis, JR and Rkelly already. If we can get a mid 2nd rounder for him, then it's a win. |

Of course Sacre should be on the block yo. Dangle him and see what team offers a decent piece of meat. You smell me. 1st rounder and lakers should bite |

Well this surely means we're drafting a big. If Mitch can get anything for Sacre I applaud him. |

Common sense on the Hill front pretty much. Why would we pick his option up and go into free agency with only 12 million to spend?
at trading Sacre. Don't see that happening. Just keep the guy. He's got zero value and makes peanuts, basically, so we'd likely have to give something up just to get rid of him. |

I don't know how I would've been able to get through the last two seasons without LG's game threads. |

If we keep both Tarik and Big Ed in addition to our rookie, then Sacre is certainly moveable. Tho I always kind of enjoyed his bench warmer antics, he was like the next Ronnie Turiaf. |

We could offer him to Cleveland as a backup for their second rounder, which will be in the 50's anyways. |

True, but do we really know if that player we pick up in the 50s is going to be any better than Sacre?
Then again, the FO did snag Clarkson with one of the final 15 picks in the draft, so if they see a prospect they like that late then it'd be an option. |

Honestly i would trade sacre just for a small or even a very small chance of getting someone who might be better. I just dont see how he has any value for the team, i also dont think we can get anything for him, maybe he gets thrown in some trade as trade sweetener. |

Unless Mitch sees something really insane in the workouts from Russell or Mudiay, this wasn't really a surprise. |

A bag of sand is about the only thing you could get for him. On what NBA team is he even a 2nd string center? |

So Sacre could be on the trading block? Hmmm......... It would seem kind of foolish for the Lakers to trade him for just a low 2nd round pick, it couldn't be much of an upgrade. No Sacre (or Hill) means the Lakers will have Towns or Okafor, likely committed to signing Davis and likely Black back as the center rotation.
Some team might have interest in further developing Sacre, but what would the Lakers want? Two areas I can see the Lakers addressing this off-season; veteran PG to tutor our 2 young PG's, and an upgrade at SF defensive, but also a better offensive threat than Wesley Johnson.
Two SF's I could see the Lakers interested in this draft - Kevin Looney 6-9 from UCLA and Ronde Hollis Jefferson 6-7 from Arizona. Along with the 2nd pick, we have picks 27 and 34.
The Hawks pick at 15 - this might be a spot they could get Looney at - would the Hawks take the 27 and 34 picks for the 15th?
If no, another target spot might be the Bulls at 22 - Looney is probably gone by this pick, but RHJ might still be here. Lakers 27th and Sacre for the 22nd pick?
Also there is Nick Young; erratic but a scorer with a reasonable deal, maybe he could be in the mix - though I think the market is probably not high for him after last year. We may still keep him as Kobe injury insurance.
Addressing the need for a vet. PG - Nick Young and Sacre to Washington for Ramon Sessions? How about NY and RS to Sacramento for Darren Collision? |
