Yes, no, maybe so? Assume that next year, Kobe miraculously reverts to his younger self (also assume that we didn't pick up any key FAs...let's say our core is Clarkson/Kobe/Randle/2nd Pick). This answer depends on how good a rookie season you think these guys will have. I was inspired to make this after watching all of the Top 10 Kobe moments on TWC.

Vote no,only because you got to give the rookie a chance to grow. Plus who knows if Kobe last a full season. |

Don't think we'd have the depth to be title contenders with that core, especially in today's Western Conference, as well as with how young and inexperienced that core would be, but I could definitely see us hanging in there with teams like the Pelicans and Mavs for a playoff spot.
Then again, Kobe in 2006 was so extraordinary that he carried bums like Smush and Kwame to the playoffs and, at the same time, almost knocked out one of the favorites to win the title that year, so you'd have to factor that in as well. |

a rookie doesn't make your team a championship contender unless they're GOATS in their respective positions ie Magic, Duncan etc...
Both Towns and Okafor need nba polishing. _________________ "Nobody hates the good ones. They hate the great ones." - KB |

I would say Okafor is extremely polished and is coming to the NBA with possibly the best post game in the league... the guy was swarmed with defenders his entire career at Duke and was still the top finisher in the nation. I don't see why Okafor can't have a Duncan like impact. He was just the best player on his team as a freshmen and won a national title, that speaks to something. |

I voted no only because I don't think it will be Kobe and Okafor/Towns in 2016. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

2006 Kobe would have had us made the playoffs in 2013-2014. |

of course, we were making the playoffs with Kwame, Smush, Luke....
if prime Kobe had Okafor/Town, Randle, Clarkson and good role players like Black, Davis. Yes, we would have been title contender. |

The conference is deeper than it was in 2006. I think it would be a lot tougher. |

Yes, no, maybe so. It's hypothetical. Make the result whatever you want it to be!

Rondo

Rondo would have 12 assists a night. Kobe with 32 a night. 60-70 wins. |

I went ahead and voted yes, just knowing it would be Okafor replacing Kwame Brown. Who was the one that flew by Tim Thomas like an idiot before he drained that big three pointer. |

If you could time travel Okafor or Towns back to 2006 and put them on the Lakers they would make it to the finals. They would've swept that Suns team if Kwame could just catch the ball and dunk it consistently. |

In the eastern conference, prime Kobe along with Odom and Okafor/Towns wins 50+ games. |

Playoffs, yes.
Better seed than the Kwame Brown anchored squad, probably.
Title contenders, no - need another significant contributor while the young fella learns the ropes. _________________ Magic*Kobe*LBJ*AD*Cap |
