Honest question, I don't know. Couldn't find anything online. And from games I've seen, I'd say no. Can't remember last time heard it at a game. But maybe they do. I did see a YouTube video from 2012 but it was played pregame.

"I Love LA" is one of the things I associate with Showtime. You'd see a 10-0 run by the Lakers, capped off by a three-on-one fastbreak that Worthy finished with a dunk off a Magic pass. Timeout by the opposition! And as it went to break you'd hear I Love LA starting up, or sometime you'd hear it concluding just when they returned from commercial break. I can actually remember Snapper Jones occasionally saying that when LA played that song, the other team would often go on a run. I dunno. I just know when that song came on, it meant something great had happened to the Lakers (and I'd even enjoy reading the stories about the song where people would go out of their way to say the song was a satire and it was hilarious that LA was now using it as a celebration of the city. Whatever).

Anyway just curious.

(Other thing I miss from that era: The rhythmic clapping before introductions of a big game, followed by Tanter, without music and the lights still on, bringing out Magic and the Captain. I'm old. And sad. Help me.)

Ha. Touche.

So it's only postgame? Nice, but still loved it after big Laker moments in-game.

They still play it before the game about 2 minutes before the start of player intros. It's played while major landmarks around the city like Hollywood Blvd, Beverly Hills, Dodger Stadium, Getty Center etc. are shown on the video board.

I always wondered if the irony of this song is just totally lost on the Lakers or Laker fans in general.

Singing we love LA in our $200 seats, with tons of homeless and poverty stricken citizens waiting outside to sell us shirts and hot dogs wrapped in bacon?

Randy Newman wrote the song as a satire take on LA way back in the 80's when the song came out.

Yeah they still play the song. It's one of many things that could use some freshening up. They still use an organ!

Agreed. I was in Jr High School when that song came out. A girl I was friends with back then is in the video. That song is Old Old Old, time for something new.

I personally like the organ and the live band, tho
