KWAME BROWN is gone. Lakers, throw a parade already, this man is a bonafide scrub. He can't play. He has small hands, he can't catch the ball, he has bad feet, he can't really move, even though he's mobile, he doesn't really know what he's doing, doesn't have a post move that he puts to memory and can do two times in a row. He has no game whatsoever, plays no defense, and you're asking me did they give up too much?
Yes and here's why: When we got Pau he was a proven star in the league just needing to be paired with a true SUPERSTAR to get over the top. We paired him with Kobe and look what happened. When you think about it, when we first got Pau, we almost won a championship, but I seriously think that first season we got him, it was just too much for him and it overwhelmed him, so we lost in the finals to the Celtics.
Mark would not have been able to get us over the hump and we would have wasted more of kobe's prime years waiting for Mark. Overall it worked out, when you think about it Mark is in the same position that Pau was in when we traded for him back then. Mark needs a proven Superstar to put him over the edge. I venture as far as to say it won't be Kobe this time around. I think Memphis will bring in someone to balance Marks dominance and put them in a Western Conference Finals.
What kind of question is this? Pau was the best big man in the game during those championship runs. Marc Gasol was never at that level. He's a very good and well rounded player, but he didn't really develop into an elite center until 2011. By that time Kobe was already out of his prime. Then what happens with Bynum? I doubt him and Marc could've played together.

ridiculous question... Pau = 3 finals, 2 championships.
with Marc there's no saying if we win any championships. I would say not as by the time Marc was rounding into a premier player, Kobe was already on the downswing of his career.

This is one of those questions that can't really be answered, because it is based on a faulty premise, namely that we traded Marc in order to acquire Pau.
We traded Kwame's large expiring contract for Pau, because Bynum injured his knees and we needed a starting center to take his place.
At the time, the Grizzlies owners were trying to sell the team, and wanted to reduce the team payroll by trading Pau. Their first choice for the trade was the Bulls, but they believed that their starting lineup was bound for glory and didn't want to trade any of their players.
When Bynum went down, Mitch looked for a replacement, and found that Pau was available, if we were willing to take on his contract.
We also traded our rights to Marc, who was not yet playing for us, and was (I think) still in Spain. We also traded our rights to one or two other low salary players.
But this wasn't a Marc Gasol for Pau Gasol trade per se. It was a Kwame Brown for Pau Gasol trade. And the only reason the Grizzlies were willing to take Kwame was because he was an expiring contract. _________________ I would rather have questions I cannot answer than answers I cannot question - Richard Feynman
