I was never into cars. If I had lottery money I would never spend more than 50 grand on a car. I'd probably by a bigger house in a better neighborhood. My thing about cars is they get you from point A to Point B. The Toyota Corrola does the same thing. You just look good doing it

Agree but got to respect the design and engineering aspect as well. Personally, I love anything design related. _________________ Music is my medicine

Don't enjoy roller coasters or scenic driving? _________________ Resident Car Nut.

I hate roller coasters but enjoy scenic driving but I'm the one always driving because my wife can't so I can't get the full effect. Enjoyed taking in the scenery when I was in Hawaii on a tour and my brother drove from San Francisco to southern cal and told me it was beautiful I hope to do that one day

Absolutely. Start from Marin County and make sure to pass through Big Sur.
If the option is available, do that in a convertible. Maximizes the experience.
Thanks. I'm going to try to make my first trip to California within the next year. Of course it has to be within basketball season so I can check out a laker game. I have San Francisco, Los Angeles and sandiego on the list. Are there any stops along the way I should make

San Luis obispo. Monterey. Santa Cruz.
The Pacific Coast highway is easily my favorite drive in North America. _________________ Music is my medicine

THIS is almost the exact duplicate of my very first car. Back in the day we used to drop cars in the back, put sweet duel pipes (mufflers) on them lose the emblems, handles for a smooth look. We called it customizing. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.
America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we falter and lose our freedoms, it will be because we destroyed ourselves.

Los Angeles to San Franscio highway 101LINK I don't know if the fith and ninth pictures in this link are still there. I know when I drove it years ago that portion was beautiful but scary. You really have to pay attention to what you're doing. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I've friends visiting California from Australia and I just mapped out the following drive for them leaving San Francisco. Enjoy!
Quote:
Head north out of San Francisco to Sonoma & Napa, then westward through Santa Rosa. Then slightly north on 101 exiting on River Road to the coast to hook up with Highway 1. Cross the Russian River and then head south on HWY 1 to Bodega Bay. Follow HWY1 south til Stintson Beach, then head east back to 101 through Marin. Take a stop in Mill Valley, before getting back on 101 over the GG Bridge.
Continue on 101 south our of the city to Hwy 156W to 1S. Travel south through Half Moon Bay, then onward through Santa Cruz, til Monterrey. Take the marked drive through Pebble Beach before continuing south through Carmel, Big Sur, Cambria (Hearst Castle), then into Morro Bay. That'll mark the end of coastal HWY 1 until you're down in the Los Angeles area.
Take Hwy 101 out of Morro Bay south through San Luis Obispo, Pismo Beach, until Santa Maria. Take Hwy 154 south out of Santa Maria through Zaca Station and Los Olivos until you get to Santa Ynez. You'll briefly detour about 10 miles west to the Dutch Village of Solvang, before bactracking to Hwy 154. Continue south on Hwy 154 until Paradise Road (Look for signs to Paradise Campground) Take Paradise road was through all the river crossings until road dead ends. The walking path ahead is about 2 miles to Red Rock. After Red Rock, head west on Paradise road back to Hwy 154 and travel one exit south exiting on Satgecoach Rd. Follow that to Cold Springs Tavern (The rustic restuarant I sent pics of). Then it's just back to Hwy 154 south into Santa Barbara. (Call my mom before leaving Cold Springs and she'll meet you at Hwy 101 and lead you to the house)
Out of Santa Barbara, head south on Hwy 150 through Ojai to Santa Paula. Then get on Hwy 126 W to Ventura. Take Hwy 101 South out of Ventura to Oxnard exiting on (I think it's Lincoln, but can't remember. It'll be marked as the business route to Hwy 1. It';; be the last exit before you leave Oxnard and headed up the big incline). Then once you're on Hwy 1, it'll hug the coast all the way south through Malibu and into Santa Monica before the Hwy ends. Out of Los Angeles to San Diego is straight forward. The Hwy 1 portion out of LA though Orange county can be given a pass since it's basically just a business route with a few scenic bits. But nothing different than driving the Gold Coast Hwy through Surfers Paradise from Palmy to Mermaids. If you guys decide to head to San Diego during the day, go via I-15 out of Ontario so you don't get stuck in the San Diego North County traffic on I-405. Don't go farther south than Poway, because that's where you'll have to cut over west to get to Jessica's place in Del Mar.

It's beautiful, but parts of that drive, especially going South are scary as hell. _________________ “It took many years of vomiting up all the filth I’d been taught about myself, and half-believed, before I was able to walk on the earth as though I had a right to be here.”

Highly disagree, but I've driven A LOT of canyons. I did that drive in a Spyder all the way down PCH into L.A.
Ever had the pleasure of driving the canyons at Glendora Ridge (prior to the heavy police presence) ? Still my fav SoCal road for aggressive fun. Back in the days of my mis-spent youth, we use to race it in the wee hours weekly. Not for the feint of heart. _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs.
