Those 8 guys and Shaq are virtually on everyone's top 10 list.

The 10th guy is generally either Hakeem or Lebron. Oscar used to be on the list, but he seems to have dropped off it.

The question really isn't who the top 10 are, since there isn't much disagreement about that; it's the exact ordering of the top 10

I'd say Ronnie Price... Jordan might make the cut, but I'm debating between him and Russell. hmmmm...

3. KAJ
4. Wilt
5. Kobe
6. Duncan
7. Shaq
8. Bird
9. Hakeem
10. Lebron

I tend to leave out Russell, mainly because the clips I've seen him play don't impress me, nor do his gaudy ring count in a league with 9 teams and the fact he's a center who shot 45% FG.

I'd put Kobe, Kareem and Magic as 1A 1B and 1C but since Magic said Kobe is the greatest I'll put Kobe ahead of him

1 Kobe/Kareem
3 Magic
4 Baylor
5 Bird
6 Shaq/Wilt
8 Jordan

9 and 10 are too hard. Pippen and Hakeem probably

Anybody know why Wilt's scoring average dropped so much during the playoffs compared to the regular season? How come no one else in the all-time top ten had their stats drop like that in the postseason?

No brainers: Jordan, Magic, Kareem, Wilt, and Bird, plus Russell has to be in there somewhere. Beyond that, there just aren't enough slots for all of the candidates, so no one is a no-brainer. Hakeem, Snaq, Duncan, Lebron, and Kobe -- five players for four chairs. Other people would consider Oscar, West, Dr. J, Moses, and Mikan, but I don't think any of those picks would withstand serious scrutiny. Still, if someone wants to stick Oscar or Jerry in their top 10, it's not an outrageous pick.

Wilt was a showman. In his big scoring years, he played for some awful teams. When he averaged 50 ppg, he had Maravich-esque shooting numbers (40 FGA per game!). He was trying to average 50 points. It didn't just happen by coincidence. When the playoffs arrived, it was time to play a little more seriously. The defense got more serious, too.

Some of the Wilt fans will bristle at that, but everyone else knows that it's true.

Jordan
Johnson
Jabber
Russell
Chamberlain
Duncan
O'Neal
Bryant
Olajuwon
Bird
Robertson

On most lists, those are the 11 names that are usually mentioned (in no particularly order) Someone always gets left out usually Big O or Hakeem. With James creeping, you could see both at 11 and 12.

If you have a 10a and a 10b, they aren't "no brainers"

If I am going with "no-brainers", my list isn't going to be 10 long, I think once you get 5 and 6 you start to get into the area where you have to make an argument for their inclusion, thus not "no brainers"

The no brainers as I see, and in no order:

Jordan
Magic
Kobe
Bird
Wilt
Shaq
Russel
KAJ
Duncan
Robertson . . .

. . . (bleep), now that I think about it, there are more "no brainers" than there are spots.

Sounds about right, though Hakeem is 11 on my list and LeBron is way up the list at 6 or so. He's pushing hard for the 5 spot.

Some days I like Wilt over Russell and some days I like Duncan over Shaq and some days I like Bird over Kobe--and, of course, vise versa.

When you look as the Big O's post season drop off, you can see why many don't put him in the top ten--or at least why I don't. I put West ahead of him and this I never waver on.

Yes! I have him somewhere around 15. He was a stud on both ends.

I agree. His prime wasn't too long, but his peak stats are unbelievable, especially his 93' season: 29.9 PPG/ 10.7 RPG/ 4.8 APG/ 3.3 Blocks/ 1.7 Steals

Bird over Kareem?

no way. kareem is the only one in that list you can place above jordan for the #1 slot, and you'd have a case for it. Kobe, too, but that's just me.

Kareem yes. Kobe no. Most skilled player, sure. But not career, total package wise.
