Quote: | The 2017 NBA All-Star Weekend will be held in Charlotte, N.C. after the city won its bid for the event on Monday, according to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
It'll be the first time that Charlotte hosts the event since 1991, although that was in the Charlotte Coliseum which has since been demolished. Time Warner Cable Arena opened in 2005 and is receiving $40 million renovations, which Bonnell says is a key reason the NBA chose Charlotte as host for All-Star Weekend.
The 1991 NBA All-Star Game is the only one ever hosted by Charlotte, and Charles Barkley of the Philadelphia 76ers was named the game's MVP. Russell Westbrook was named the MVP at Madison Square Garden last year after scoring 27 points in the first half, an All-Star Game record.
The 2016 NBA All-Star Game will be held in Toronto, the first one ever held outside of the United States. |
