And most of us here are very glad we dodged that Okafor bullet. I mean, the Sixers are already looking to possibly move him. The Lakers just fired a coach who couldn't aid in Russell's development and couldn't run plays to utilize Russell's skill sets. It's refreshing to know the grass will always be greener in Lakerland.

It doesn't really matter what other fans think. D'Angelo was held back all year by Byron. Next season, when we hire a competent coach, everyone will be able to witness what he is capable of.

Now they'll never credit him or mention his name. There was even a stretch where they tried to tell themselves, Kendall Marshall was a better solution for them at PG. Then Ish Smith. They constantly tell themselves TJ McConnell was a better PG pick for them.

I have a few friends who are 76ers fans. They absolutely wanted DLO.

Okafor, Towns, Porzingis are the former Prototype, Prototype, and possible evolution respectively of the center position. In terms of evolution, a lot will depend on health for Porzingis with guys his size not fairing well historically. We'll see. Stein and Kaminsky are specialists on the opposite end of the spectrum while Turner is Towns-lite. Great draft for Centers. From last year Embiid is more of an old school big offensively but demonstrated so much potential that he could be successfully buck the trend if he gets healthy.

Russell is the prototype guard, handles and playmaking skills with range. Perfect in a two guard front. Mudiay and Booker are in the specialist category while Payne projects as a career backup. From last year Exum is like Russell with much better defense and no shot. If he could improve his range he would be a perfect compliment to DLO. Smart, Payton, Lavine and Clarkson are all specialists.

All the negative stuff aside, that DLO ish is hilarious.

For real though, his camera game is on point. That slick zoom during the locker room celebration for Kobe? High level stuff there.

I believe the perceived seriousness of the situation passed. Now it's just one of those running gags. Before all these things would've been 'too soon...' but after Nick revealed how he was just milking the attention everyone's moved on and it's become a meme in itself. I think DLo is the type of guy who can take these fun knocks, he's a jokester himself.

Wait Nick really said this? Link?

I think DLO was unfortunately the scapegoat and marketing tool for a horrendous Iggy album. Controversy sells and it's not a coincidence this video leaked as soon as she was doing a press tour but was months old. Look at Beyoncé and her new album. Jay's the cheater and everyone is up in arms while they are on the beach together counting money. Look at the facts. Sad.

Now, DLO is just fine. He handled himself very well and you can see that he's an astute basketball mind. He will need a good offseason of conditioning and I hope he's hitching his trailer to Kobe for help. If we can somehow have DLO mimic Kobe season 2 and bring that fire, it's going to be a great season. The key is getting a coach and staff that looks at our roster and says DLO you're the guy.

With a new coach not holding him back, what type of numbers do you think Russell will put up?

Tough to say without knowing the coach and FAs and other additions (and subtractions).

I'd say at least something like 16-17 ppg, 4.5 rpg, 5.5 apg, 1.5 spg, 37% from 3s kind of season.

Id say that the range but I think he can score a few more points. All depends on the team. He will be much better next season. Much much better and he was pretty good this year.

That would be a nice sophomore season. And it's realistic. Can't crap on those projections.

Very good numbers for a soph 17-18ppg 6assist. It's going to be beautifully clear that Byron was holding him back, the media/former Lakers who doubt that will have to eat doodoo

Hope that's true. Nick and Iggy get through it. Nick and D'Lo get a wake-up moment and gain some maturity. Maybe they end up better in the end.

It would be nice to have a team that learns how to keep it in the locker room for the first time in decades.

My wishlist for D'Angelo Russell coming into next season:
1) Added strength. It'll help him bang against bigger players and improve his stamina throughout the game. He did a better job of absorbing contact throughout the year on the offensive end, but defensively a trend was for guards to bump into him on their way up. Will also help his jumpshot, when times last season his shots were short.
2) Continued reps on his jump shot. While he showed flashes of a mid range game, he shot in the 35% range from 10-14, 15-19, and 20-24 ft. In comparison, CP3 shot 54%, 44%, and 39% respectively. D'Angelo also averaged .81 PPP in off-screen situations. I'd like to see an uptick in percentages from that area, as well as improved percentages from three.
3) Tightening his handles. He had a solid turnover rate for a 19 year old guard, I'd like to see him to continue improving his handle. He had a turnover rate of 20% in PnR situations as the ball handler and 19% in transition.
4) Practicing various PnR situations. We were all frustrated with the lack of competent bigs in PnR situations last season, but at the same time, I'd also like to see him practice situations like that, where there is a defender hovering over the screen. That'll give him not only reps on his mid range, but also being able to turn the corner off the pick. I'd also like to see him practice more sideline PnR's where he turns the corner as well. Teams like Houston and San Antonio this year trapped the sideline and he had nowhere to go.

That's a really good list. I especially agree with practicing various PnR situations. In terms of strength, he really needs to strengthen that core and lower body.

I was hard on D'Angelo last season but only because to me he was hyped up as this floor general, passing savant, instant 8+ assist guy and to me he fell sort of flat.

However.. I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt because seemingly the Lakers were at the bottom of the league in terms of passing and assists.

I'm curious to see how he'll do this coming season with (hopefully) a coach with a more open offense and BIGS who are willing to set proper screens so I can fully be on board with him.

He's shown he can score.

We all seen his passing from college.

All I ask is we see those two things come together beautifully so we can all worry a little less about the future of this team lol. I'd love for once to not have to worry about a point guard for the Lakers lol

Those are pretty absurd expectations for a 19 year old rookie.

My list for D'Angelo Russell:

1) Man up - He needs to man up
2) Play hard - What's the point if you don't
3) Want it - Need to want it more than the opponent

Yup. Also coaching and system played an undeniable factor in the low assists. I mean, weren't we dead last in the league? A majority of us who watched most of the games this season saw a ton of isolation sets.
