D'Angelo, like Towns, would have been fine anywhere. Julius (like Jahlil) really wanted to go to the Lakers. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."

Love his seriousness. He has that "Kobe" mentality to get to work ASAP, to get better and not expect for things to just be handed to him.

That interview above should answer your question.
He said he just wants to be level headed, get the mentally that his work ethic should stay off the charts as if he never got drafted. _________________ Tacos

I mean he was crying on draft night . I guess you say he was really disappointed not going to Philly? _________________ It was reminiscent of one of those Most Interesting Man in the World advertisements: "I don't always shoot 6-for-28 from the field, but when I do, I become the youngest player in league history to score 28,000 career points." |

I just figured out who Russell reminds me of with his game. T-Mac. T-Mac was buttery smooth in his prime. _________________ A key that has the ability to unlock many locks is a master key. But a lock that can be opened with any key is useless. |

He does have the same body movement. But T-mac more explosive. Russell is more skilled though. |

I hope it's TMac. but he reminds me a lot of Deron Williams _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. didn't say it was a bad thing. It is a good thing for sure.
I'd only like Russell to get his release point higher than where it is now.
I think Russell is a more adept scorer than Williams though. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. I loved it when a reporter asked him about not being as athletic as other players he said he's the best player in the draft regardless of his athleticism but as a compete basketball player. RAWR! |

The other guy that he reminds me off, especially when he plays off the ball is Michael Redd... or maybe it's because they are both left handed. but I prefer CP3, if he can pattern his game after him. _________________ "Now, if life is coffee, then the jobs, money & position in society are the cups. If we're talking comparisons, he's Steve Nash with Steph Curry's flare. And he's just a good shooter while those two are all time great shooters. MUCH more defensive potential than either as well.
But at the same time, I don't think comparisons are a good way of evaluating talent at all. They're best served to give the general public a basic idea of a player's game. Not the whole picture. |

On a different note, did anyone know that D'Angelo was teammates w/ next year's top recruit Ben Simmons? They played together at Montverde prep. Just found that out today |

He's as big a Kobe fan as Kobe was a Jordan fan.
D'angelo, like Kobe to Jordan however. Was trying to think of ways to go at him, and surpass him as opposed to playing with him.
That's the mentality you need. You look at the best and you want to take them down.
That's why Russell said he always saw himself "Going at" Kobe, when he would train instead of getting passes from him. Because Kobe was his 'mountain' just like MJ was Kobe's. Having that mentality is a GOOD thing, because it means he'll never back down or be starstruck or awestruck, he intends to give as good as he gets because Kobe has been the guy he's wanted to try to surpass.
This is the kind of mentality I want the guy who gets the franchise once Kobe retires to have. And I am even happier that we got him on OUR team.
he went at CP3 with the same intensity when they worked out together and went at each other this summer.
It's the same chip on the shoulder Byron saw in both Kobe and CP3. I'm glad he saw it in Russell too.

Agreed. All the other players mentioned are much faster and/or more explosive than D'Angelo is. Nash and Curry have a similar smooth, below the rim game he has. Hope the team gets Nash in to mentor this kid. _________________ "Chick lived and breathed Lakers basketball…but he was also fair and objective and called every game the way it was played."
