I wish I had a clue but my overall knowledge of how the others have played comparatively is nil. After the first 5 or 6 picks and I'm fuzzy.

Lakers hope Larry Nance Jr. is answer at small forward

Quote:
Nance had never played the position. He also has attempted only nine 3-pointers all season and has made only one.

“Defensively, I’m not worried about transitioning because that’s a challenge that I want,” Nance said. “Offensively is where it’s going to be a little bit of a struggle. Clearly, offensively I’m not yet groomed to be there.”

Yet, the Lakers have forged on this position change with as much force as one of Nance’s gravity-defying leaps for a few simple reasons.

The Lakers have become limited at that position with a right foot injury to rookie Anthony Brown and inconsistency from Metta World Peace and Nick Young. Kobe Bryant’s status as the team’s starting small forward seemingly changes by the game amid season-long soreness to his right shoulder.

The Lakers also sound intrigued that Nance eventually could complement second-year forward Julius Randle with an expanded game as deep as the 3-pointers they have asked Nance to take.

I hope the team lets Nance play both positions depending on matchups. He can be an athletic PF, and a big SF.

He played PF defensively and SF offensively against the Heat.

Rockets-era Horry would be a good aspiration/model for Nance. With his athleticism, he could be on both ends and could be the 3/D player we need.

So they just started asking him to shoot 3's because of the SF switch? Why wouldn't they want him to shoot 3's as a PF?

Another solid game by LNJr. This kid quietly goes about his business in a professional manner. Very pleased with his demeanor and production.

Good hustle and energy, efficient defense too.

4 - 5 FG. for 8 points, 3 rebs. and 2 steals.

You guys see him hustling back on a fast break by Harden while the other four Lakers watched?

Actually that play annoyed me because he didn't even try going for the block

None of our players ever try to defend fast break lay ups

Or half court layups, or corner 3 pointers, or pick and roll ball handlers, or...etc...

Why would anyone want to risk getting injured during exhibition games?

He was too far behind the play to attempt a block but he ran hard trying to catch up to Harden which he does regularly. That's more than I can say for any of the other Lakers.

With 18 minutes of sample size I wouldn't put too much stock into these #s.

Last time I went to check those kind of stats our best lineups had Huertas, Sacre, Kelly and other garbage players.

One clear thing to me this season is that we are not good enough to compete against starting units.

Our best lineups don't have Hibbert in the middle. Almost any combination of Randle, Nance, Bass and Black without Hibbert has better numbers.

I don't know if a player can work on rebounding anticipation, but he often finds himself on the wrong side of the rim from the rebound. That and shooting and getting that knee healthy should be goals for the off season.

Would like to see him get a consistent, confident 3-ball as well. I think he is close.
