Nance Discusses Injury Two Days After Surgery

Quote:
Two days after undergoing surgery to repair a fractured second metacarpal on his left hand, Larry Nance Jr. returned to STAPLES Center with a cast on the afflicted area.

Doctors told Nance — who is out four to six weeks — that he could have treated the injury without surgery. But both parties agreed that it was the preferable option.

“They said mine was kind of a grey area,” Nance said. “I could have or could not have. They decided surgery was probably the safest, fastest and most secure route.”

Surgery was on Friday Nov 3rd, and initial estimates were 4-6 weeks.
That would put a return sometime between Dec 1 - Dec 15th

there would obviously be some time needed to get back into game shape, etc.

Lakers Nation is reporting that Nance is back in the weight room
http://www.lakersnation.com/lakers-news-larry-nance-jr-returns-to-weight-room-for-first-time-since-surgery-on-hand/2017/11/12/

Since it's his off hand that was broken, Nance should also spend the next 3-5 weeks he's out working on 1 handed free throws and smoothing out that shot form

We could have used his energy when we went on that scoreless scoring drought it seems like people don't even know he's on the team, but he could have easily helped us last night.

I just think more Larry means less Brewer, bogut, Hart perhaps.

The way Kuz is playing, do you think Nance will go back to the bench ?

Possibly not. Luke might not think there is enough spacing with a Nance/Randle bench and move him back to the bench.

It may depend on the opponent however IMO Nance will start most of the time.
He's more experienced plus he does the little things and the dirty work well.

Getting Nance back will be huge but I am not sure where he fits anymore with Kuzma clearly being a starting caliber NBA player.

Kuzma (36) / Nance 12)???
Lopez (24) /Randle (24)

You can argue Randle deserves those minutes at the 4 or Ingram can play there in a small ball lineup. But I always feel Nance is injured anyway so maybe a moot point

Kuzma could also get a few minutes at the 3 in certain situations.

So he’s probably way ahead of schedule, we should see him most likely by the Sacramento game.

Well returning to practice usually results in a 1 week return, maybe he comes back for the Warriors game.

Interesting to see if he would return to the starting lineup when he gets back.

I hope so, I think that favors both units.

Holy (bleep), he killed that initial recovery timeline of 4-6 weeks. When was the last time a Laker returned from injury AHEAD of schedule?

He's allowed to practice. Not sure when he'll be allowed to play though?
