That's why the staff wants him to take that shot when open and keep working on it. I think the lakers may be moving towards having Randle at the 3. We drafted a senior PF in the first round and then grabbed bass in freeagency making it near impossible for nance to get any playing time the next few years. This has to mean that one of these guys is seen as a SF, right?

Randle is going to be abused defensively as a 3.

Except Nance will most likely get the SF assignment on defense. which would make that whole thing work.

Exactly. They can switch everything to get favorable matchups defensively. i doubt we see much of nance his season though.

Pf
Randle/bass/nance
SF
Kobe/young/brown/nance?
C
Hibbert/black/sacre/upshaw

Unless they find a way to package a few players nance seems like he will be the odd man out playing in he D-league. How many years is bass signed for?

He has a 1 year deal with a player option on the next, a very similar deal to the Ed Davis one we had last season. In all likelihood it will play out the same as well

I hope so because it seems like a waste to draft nance and he's sitting on the bench the next two seasons.

Nance doesn't let Crohn's disease or a torn ACL derail his journey to the Lakers

Quote:
Pre-draft workouts were the first time Nance Jr. truly felt like he was mentally recovered from his ACL injury. Crohn’s, however, is with him forever. Every couple of months he gets an infusion of drugs that offsets the disease and gives him the energy to play.

While Nance Jr. was a superstar at Wyoming, he was seen by few as a first-round pick in this year’s class.

The Lakers plucked him with 27th pick – his dad went 20th in 1981 – and five days later he stood at a news conference holding his No. 7 jersey.

“I carry that jersey with me wherever I go,” he said. “In the airport, with me here (in Las Vegas). I just need to look at that every now and again. You know what, this is me. I’m a Los Angeles Laker.

“It still hasn’t set in yet.”

You are interested in an undersized center? How is he any different than black?

Larry needs to spend some time in the D-League to work on his shooting and overall game.

exactly. Wasn't Harrell an all American too. Both guys are basically the same, athletic raw power forwards... Harrell is just younger and already making an impact. Mitch got too cute this draft

We surely jinxed poor Larry, he looks completely lost on the court. He needs a shot of self confidence otherwise he's invisible.

Nances' impact was very minimal. hoping that its more due to that summer league is a "get your points' league than team play given that he's supposedly a great team player that does the little things.

It was a horrible pick. I don't know what they were thinking.

To me he's a more athletic mark madsen with Blake Griffin-like athleticism and a better jump shot.

The way he looks when he runs (his gait) does remind me of Mad Dog's. There's something funky about it and it ain't just the white thing. There's a slight awkwardness about it that you can't put your finger on. Yet Nance can jump. I'd go more with the Madsen comparo than with the Ginger level athleticism though. At least I haven't seen enough yet to go there.

It was reported that he was great in his workouts for the Lakers. Aren't some players better workout/practice players than in game players though? Hope they took that into deciding their pick. workouts shouldnt be the end of all but it's still very early to label him a bad pick.

After watching Larry Nance Jr in the SL.... he reminds me a lot of Mark Madsen... he can bring value with his hustle... but his offensive game is mediocre and his athleticism might keep him in the league... but he's nothing special...

It's my opinion which I'm allowed to have. I said it was a horrible pick on draft night. I knew who Nance was and watched nearly every game of his career at Wyoming. I've coached AAU basketball for nearly 20 years. I knew who Jordan Clarkson was. So your bet would be wrong.

Nance will be a good 2nd team defensive hustle guy every team needs one. There are some other picks that could have been made a defensive specialist wasn't a bad one. There are some later picks that have impressed but what he does doesn't transalte to summer league let's let the season play out

Still seemed to be a stretch at 27. Would of took a flyer on the potential of McCullough or Looney(the guy I wanted) or trading down and taking Christmas or Young. Maybe even Harrell or Mickey. Way more talented players was there at and after 27. Nance would be a lot more acceptable as a 2nd round pick
