Anthony Brown leaves Summer League frustrated with his shooting
Quote: | Brown has since fully healed from his injury. Yet, he felt uncomfortable the first two summer league contests because those appearances marked the first time he had played in an organized game since the injury. Meanwhile, the Lakers drafted Ingram and acquired free agent Luol Deng, two players that could eat Brown’s minutes. Meanwhile, Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak described Brown as a “development player.”

I honestly have no explanation for as to why, but I still believe he's going to find his shot. |

I'm pulling for him, but it was rough in summer league for him. Last year most of his threes were on line, but short. In the summer league his misses were all over the place. I'm hoping the foot thing played a part and he'll improve in training camp. |

I think some are going to be surprised how much he's going to help us this year. In summer league he's been the 2nd option. Solid defensively but doesn't have a good handle.
We won't need him to create with Clarkson, Russell, Randle, and Deng. We just need him to play the Harrison Barnes role. |

Luke hired Buechler for this. Seems like Murray didn't properly address his improper shot motion and form.
I think he'll have a different stroke when the season starts. |

Yeah, my brother loves to joke the Lakers have a way of coaching 3 point accuracy out of players - even players who are known for their shot have it disappear when the join us. Not sure how accurate the statement is but it seems to hold true with some players. Perhaps the system not allowing them to shoot from where they're comfortable?
Bottom line: I'm glad we have a new shooting coach and hopefully we'll get some results to change my bro's mind. Starting with AB. |

He's shown nothing at the professional level to believe in him. |

Our FO just needs to let Anthony Brown go! Not all late round picks work out. Most don't.
Just be happy we found some diamonds in the rough with Clarkson, Nance, and Zubac. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

Let him go over who?
I don't have high hopes for him, but it's not like we're stacked with talent this year. Might as well try to develop him for another year I'd say. One poor rookie season and summer league doesn't instill confidence, but that's not the end-all, be-all for an NBA career. |

Let him go after one season and on the cheap? I thought you were supposed to be sensible.... |

If Deng is moved to the 4, like some of us believe is ideal, our small forwards are Ingram and...? |

But there are others that believe that Deng will spend most of his time at SF with Ingram.
Yes, I understand he played well at PF last year after Bosh went down. But on this team this year they do not need him to. Lakers have two pretty good PFs in Randle and Nance.
Going to be interesting to see how or even if Brown is used significantly by Walton. He has that potential versatility to play either SF or SG. He is a perimeter defender that is struggling with his shot. He ever starts making them.... he could be a solid contributor. For now a rotation player with promise. |

Bot Ingram and Deng are interchangeable at 3/4. So you don't really have to play Brown any minutes. That's the beauty of having players who can play multiple positions. |

I find the different perspectives interesting.
I would never think of Ingram as a 4. Especially not this year.
I think his versatility is more suited to SF/SG. Same as Brown.
As the roster stands I envision it more of a Deng/Ingram splitting the SF. And Williams and Brown (possibly Ingram) getting the backup SG mpg depending on matchups and game plan. |

I feel the same way although I feel he is going to be on a short leash. He needs to come into training camp with his shot dialed in. Otherwise, he's going to fall in the depth chart fast. |

I think the best predictor for future success is past success. His shot looked really good in college. He needs to find that stroke again.
His shots were missing short, and to me that is just a sign of not having the legs behind it. Which is very correctable.
I also got the feeling that he was trying to prove that he could do more than just shoot, because he put the ball on the floor a lot. I think he will focus on his role as shooting a bit more the next time around, and during training camp.
I still have hopes for him too, but I doubt I can convince others at this point. Its good to know I'm not alone in my optimism. |

Training camp will tell us all we need to know about AB3.
I hope he's up to the task at hand. |

AB is probably our best wing defender at this time, so don't sleep on that. We need to have good defenders on this team. His shot will come, but he can play D now. _________________ R.I.P. Doc Buss |

Deng is a better defender. Ingram right off the bat might be as well.
I wonder if Brown is one of those guys who needs his shot to fall in order to make any type of contribution. I think he was easily the worst player on the team last season (yes even worse than Kelly). |

The Mysterious Case Of Anthony Brown’s Disappearing Jumper
Quote: | Brown was an excellent shooter in college, connecting on a very impressive 44 percent from three in his final season, and 45 percent the year before that. He was one of the top shooters in the 2015 draft, and many thought the Lakers got a steal when they selected him with the 34th pick out of Stanford.
Unfortunately, his marksmanship appears to have stayed at Stanford. |

Other than experience and time to grow into their potential, the only glaring hole in the Laker Roster is a really good version of Brown. AB hasn't shown any reason to believe he will grow into that guy. But his fit is undeniable should he start hitting his shots and be cured from the Deavean George-ness in his game. _________________ Austin Reaves keeps his game tight, like Kobe Bryant on game night. |
