As impressive as Upshaw's upside is, I don't see the kind of outlandish athleticism that the centers of the 90s displayed a la Shaq, Robinson, etc.
What is Upshaw's ceiling here? Mutombo with a better touch? a taller Theo Ratliff?
I see a better defensive Mozgov.
For an undrafted rookie, I'll take that all day.
I think that's an average upside that he can reach. I think of a MUCH higher upside than that. Very optimistic.
I see him as a Dikembe Mutombo with more offense.
I definitely don't think that. I'm more along the lines of Alonzo Mourning in nearly Bynum's size.
Basic post game. Could have in-game midrange jumper developed. Above average rebounder. Swat king. Tremendous base.
Zo could get you 20/10 in his sleep in addition to anchoring the paint. Do you really think Upshaw can be a consistent scorer? Seems too raw offensively to ever reach that ceiling.

Why are people so high on this guy?
Yes, he's a physical specimen at the 5, but he hasn't shown the IQ in college to play both sides of the ball @ the professional level.
At best, he's a developmental talent for 3~5 seasons and that hinges largely on his maturity which he's spectacularly failed to show for two collegiate programs. _________________ Character Manchester United | Greatest European Moments Fabric of United - Our Belief

Size, proven ability to swat, basic skill set is there.
Isn't mature, but for an undrafted rookie there is very few that has his upside.

Yes. But it's a very optimistic upside. _________________ Resident Car Nut.
Upshaw will have to work very hard to improve his physical conditioning if he wants to make the squad.
I expect him to show up in the best shape of his life for Summer League.

I have no doubt Upshaw could give us 10 rebs and 3 bpg in 20 mins but he isn't gonna score much. the offense just isn't there. He's already great at rebounding and shot blocking DOOOOOOOOOOE _________________ Coach Vogel, Kidd, Hollins

Dude, He has a 9'5" reach. he can bascially dunk the ball without even jumping. Russell and Clarkson will get him easy dunks from their PNRs.
If we sign him and he plays 20mins, i think he can average 7-10 points per game.
I am drooling over the possibility of Larry and upshaw as our defensive stoppers with 5 minutes left in the game. Larry coming from the weak side and upshaw taking care of the middle.

Why are we high on him? B/c he may be our best center next season since we will likely strike out in free agency. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
