PostPosted: Mon Jun 29, 2015 4:14 pm    Post subject: A Need

Please no retreads or almost washed out vets..... who are past their prime.

When Ariza came to LA he was young, he could fly, get in passing lanes and cause chaos for an offense..... The lakers need a player like that that can cause the guards in the west fits. We need to be able to pressure the guard defensively - You can not understate this as a need if we are to win the West.

One player but not the only one is :

22 year old JK McDaniels - he is backing up Ariza in Houston and has all star potential. I would trade Young for him in a NY Sec.

This is the type of athletic ability and energy we need.

(Notes from a year ago - his rookie year - Ask K.J. McDaniels what he was brought to Philadelphia to do and his likely answer is “play defense.” Well, McDaniels has brought all of that and more to the 76ers this season. Still winless, but McDaniels has found a way to stick out from the abysmal record. Maybe it’s the high-flying dunks and blocks, but besides the highlight plays, McDaniels has been sound on all fronts.

Everyone has been quick to discuss McDaniels’ blocks, which have been impressive. The Clemson guard is averaging 1.7 blocks per game and has three games where he has blocked 3+ shots. However, his overall defense has been more impressive.

According to NBA.com, McDaniels is holding opponents he’s guarding to shooting 38.7 percentage from the field, well below the league average. The players McDaniels has guarded normally shoot 43.8 percent from the floor. His net defended field goal percentage is -5.1 percent (the more negative a number, the better it is).

This chart from 82games.com shows how McDaniels is doing on defense broken down by position. McDaniels has seen the brute of his minutes (44 percent) at shooting guard. He’s holding players to a 15.5 PER, which is around the league average. That’s not bad for a rookie who has drawn match ups against James Harden and Dwyane Wade.

He’s as versatile as they come on the defensive end. The high-flying guard can guard almost every position on the floor from point guard to power forward. He might remind 76ers fans of Andre Iguodala early on in his career with Philadelphia, which is a nice distinction to see seven games in.

His overall defense has been impressive, but let’s not act like the blocks haven’t been turning heads. His highest block total came in the 76ers last game against the Toronto Raptors. The game was a blowout in every definition of the word, but McDaniels recorded four blocks on the night. Most impressive about the blocks was how they are all in different occurrences. One block came on a drive by DeMar DeRozan, another on a weak side rotation by McDaniels on Greivis Vasquez, the next block was on a fast break attempt by Greivis Vasquez and the last block was on a Lou Williams three-pointer. It may be nothing, but it’s interesting to see that McDaniels is blocking shots in a variety of ways. The man is to be feared on the defensive side of the ball.

Not sure how much this matters, but Farmar put his house on the market a couple weeks back. He could just be moving or downsizing though.

I'm not against Farmar coming in and helping mentor D'Angelo - I'd ASSume... that would be the main reason for bringing him back. Farmar is/was a guy who really had to work and change his game to stay in the league, he'll probably be a pretty good coach someday if that's the direction he wants to go. Good character, hard worker, knows some tricks, also seems to be kind of a locker room glue guy, he would seem to be a good pick to fill that role if that's what Mitch is looking for.

No thank you. I'm sure Farmar still got game but he seems like a loser to me. Not very motivated, likes to goof around too much. We already have that player in nick young, no need for another one.

Farmar or Price?

Yeah, between head and ears I'd have to go with ears.

Only for the minimum and only as the third point guard. I like Jordan, but he's always getting hurt.

If we bring him back, that's just Mitch being lazy and not wanting to do any diligence on who's out there. Jordan Farmar is simply not good enough to be on an NBA roster.

I would be OKay with Farmar. He is a good veteran who has been on championship teams. He would be a good mentor for Russel .

Sign Arron Afflalo too and reunite him with Farmar. Lakers can have a big 3 bench mob of...
Nick Young - SF/SG
Arron Afflalo - SG
Jordan Farmar - PG

Arron obviously being the only keeper

And if we could somehow swap Young for Ariza the tent grows a couple inches

Farmar would be a solid backup point guard.

Though I think the Lakers should throw an offer sheet Cory Joseph's way and force the Spurs to have to let him go if they want a chance at Aldridge.

Farmar's making a decent pile of cash overseas. He'd come here for the vet min ? Hard to imagine why the Lakers would offer more than that to him. Hell, he left the league because he couldn't earn PT; I wouldn't presume that's changed.

The issue with Farmar is he thinks that he is better than he is. He left the Lakers last year with that haughty attitude. The Clippers of all people waived him for Austin freaking Rivers!!!!!! Bye Felicia!!!!

Actually, Greg Foster went to UCLA before transferring.
