Shutout streak ends for USA's defense (539 minutes) -- one short of the Women's World Cup record (540 minutes by Germany in 2007). |

2011 World Cup Final -- Carli Lloyd and Tobin Heath missed their attempts in the penalty shootout against Japan that cost USA the World Cup.
2015 World Cup Final -- Carli Lloyd and Tohin Heath scored 4 goals to beat Japan and give USA the World Cup.
Redemption. |

Yeah, I felt sorry for Japan. The first U.S. goal was pure class, but the next three (including the Beckham-esque long range shot) were defensive screw ups. Japan had an awful 20 minutes on the biggest stage, much like Brazil.
Still, it's another iconic moment for women's sports. As Jill Ellis says, soccer is the premier international sport for women. It's not like the WNBA. Fans of the game can recognize quality play. The U.S. has been the trailblazer for the women's game. |

Only got to watch a bit of the China game and the entirety of the Japan game.
Really regret not watching the full run for FIFA.
Won't make the same mistake next year.
Way to go! |

The US women got hot at the right time. In the group stage they were pretty terrible, their offense wasn't going anywhere, they tied with Sweden and lost to Nigeria. I think things turned around after the China game because that is when their offense started to get going. Its a good thing they save their scoring barrage for the final 2 games because those were probably the two toughest opponents they faced this tournament when it comes to international standing. If you look at how the German team started this tournament, they basically destroyed Ivory Coast 10-0 and Thailand 4-0 in the group stage, but had a power outage once they went to the elimination stage. |

I think coaching adjustments had something to do with that but whatever it was that flipped the switch the timing could not have been better! |

The Germany game and Japan game were good...the rest of the games were kinda stinkers. |

After the game they played an "American Woman" commercial by Nike that was amazing. Anyone with a daughter who played sports would be pumped by that. _________________ RIP mom. 11-21-1933 to 6-14-2023. |

The US beat Nigeria 1-0. Australia and Japan were the only teams to score against the US.
I don't disagree with most of what you said. I just wanted to point out the team was undefeated in this World Cup even when it was struggling. |

Just for the record, we beat Nigeria 1-0.
We were in the Group of Death. We didn't get to play Ivory Coast and Thailand. In hindsight, that may have worked to our benefit. Australia, Sweden, and Nigeria gave us good tests and exposed our tactical weaknesses. If we had kept trying to rely on Abby Wambach and if we had kept Carli Lloyd back in a holding role, things might not have ended as well. |

My bad, I read the score wrong.......nevertheless they didn't look that good in the early games. |

Eh, before I jump on that bandwagon, I would want to see the relative revenues from the two events. The women should be paid proportionately. The women's game has not caught on that well in the rest of the world. It would not surprise me if the MWC produces greater revenue than the WWC by an order of magnitude or more.
Now, the sexism that we see from FIFA (Blatter's "tight shorts" comment, the Alex Morgan picture this year) is a legitimate reason to get ticked off, as is the turf. It wouldn't surprise me a bit to find out that the money split is disproportionate, but probably not to the extent that those numbers suggest. |
