Eh, that's true of sports in general. The media has to fill air time. |

This is one thing I don't like about football in the media. There's too much drama, stories, controversies, mind games, etc.
It's all talk. Rarely do you see headlines of game breakdowns, stats talk etc.
It's ridiculous. Most football fans talk about it being a man's sport but really they care about the drama out of the pitch as much as in it.
I guess it is what it is though. With games so far in between football fans find other things to talk about other than the game itself. |
Eh, stats are over-rated in football (possession, key passes, shot [on target, off target], heat maps)..They can't tell you the whole story about the game unless you watch the match. Stats in other American sports (NFL, NBA, MLB) give you a better picture than football/soccer.
The drama is where the EPL is at (plus the English-speaking part). It may not be the top league in Europe/World, but to most of us here in the US and the rest of the planet, it's by far the most entertaining (unless of course, you're a ManUtd fan atm, in which case the football is about as fun as watching paint dry). _________________ Character

I'm still in the camp of the "premiership is the best league". I feel like Spain is the other "best league" contender, and the trouble with it is that the teams outside of Real, Barca & Atletico are pretty weak.
At least with the prem, there are a number of teams capable of winning it, it's a league where the smaller teams can beat the bigger teams sometimes, and one where players don't throw themselves all over the floor like in Spain.
I love the prem man, it's great entertainment every week. For an English person, the concept of Match of the Day is a fundamental part of their Saturday, it's unlike any other sports show really. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

EPL may be more competitive, but La Liga is ahead technically. I know EPL teams don't take the Europa League seriously, but Atletico and Sevilla have won 4 of the last 6. Spanish teams have a better coefficient than English teams within European competition.
La Liga players may dive more often, but let's not turn a blind eye on the egregious floppers within the Premiership. If you don't go down with the slightest bit of contact within the box, you're not doing your job properly; a matter of shame if you do - shame if you don't. The universal frustrations with football - offsides, handball, and diving - goes for any football league to varying degrees. _________________ Character

I used to think that La Liga was overrated because of the two big teams, but over the past few years I've been forced to acknowledge that there is a lot more depth in the league than I used to think. Having said that, the Bundesliga impresses me a lot, but I don't watch it that much.
I have heard critics say that the EPL is the big money league that the other leagues use to cash in on their surplus players. That's an overstatement, but there is a fair amount of truth in it. |

Btw Rudi Garcia's time is over at Roma. Wonder he comes to EPL. Utd and Chelsea will be looking at new managers.
Wenger, Pep, Klopp, Garcia and maybe Simone? Epl will be alot better next year |

Good game, shame for AFC to give up the equaliser so late on, but can't deny liverpool played well and a draw is probably a fair result. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

What is up with Swansea? I didn't see them being in a relegation struggle. |

This isn't an issue that I really care about that much, but honestly the way that the Spanish clubs operate with youth players is a bit unseemly. |

Depends on what you mean by impact. MJ had far more impact on his sport, marketing in general, and the sports industry in general than Messi. I don't mean that as a knock on Messi, either. MJ just happened to be in the right place at the right time. If Messi had never played football, would anything be different today? |

I think Messi is the greatest footballer to ever play. That doesn't necessarily make him the biggest star ever to play. I'd argue that Beckham is the biggest star ever in football, Ronaldo might be a bigger star than Messi too, he certainly has more of a star persona and is marketed more heavily.
In terms of their star-power MJ is still a bigger star than Messi has ever been though, MJ changed the way sports-people were marketed, the Jordan brand was really a gamechanger too. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

My recollection is that Ronaldo places ahead of Messi both in terms of popularity surveys and in terms of endorsement money. My recollection is also that Federer kills them both on endorsements. |

Right. It's not like it was quality opposition, like Newcastle, Norwich, or Bournemouth. |

Don't misunderstand. I'm not praising that performance by United; Liverpool played well (better than United imo) in that match, they just can't hit the broad side of a barn. _________________ Character

Vardy would be an interesting signing for Liverpool, but I'm always suspicious of English players because the English media tends to pump them up way too quick. I'd say that Vardy is a better fit for Klopp's style than Benteke, though. |
