Lakers among teams interested in Nuggets' Ty Lawson
by Chris Mannix - si.com

Despite a second DUI arrest in the last six months, embattled Denver Nuggets guard Ty Lawson is generating interest on the trade market, NBA sources told SI.com. Houston, Detroit and the L.A. Lakers are among the teams that have expressed interest in Lawson recently, and there remains a strong possibility the Nuggets could unload Lawson before training camp.

Lakers learn some things but haven't looked impressive at summer league
by Eric Pincus - latimes.com

With the score tied and 38 seconds left, the Lakers got the stop they needed Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks in a summer league game.

Then rookie guard D'Angelo Russell, the Lakers' second overall pick in June's NBA draft, tried to split a double team but lost his handle for another turnover.

The Mavericks scored on the next possession. Second-year Lakers forward Julius Randle took a last gasp three-point attempt that not only missed but came after the final buzzer had sounded.

Lakers' Randle, Russell enter NBA season facing a tricky purgatory
by Ben Golliver - si.com

With his first Summer League action less than an hour away, Lakers forward Julius Randle walked deliberately through the Thomas & Mack stands, as lines of young fans formed like comet trails behind him and sections of gawking adult fans rose to their feet respectfully, as if he was presenting the flag. A few days later, Lakers rookie guard D'Angelo Russell sat at a table signing autographs, with overwhelmed staffers going up and down letting the waiting crowd of hundreds know that there would only be time for signatures, not selfies.

There's no better place than Summer League to get in on the ground floor of a rebuilding effort, and this week's action has made it abundantly clear that Lakers fans are ready for the future. What's not quite as clear: Are the Lakers' future building blocks ready for primetime?

Julius Randle Will Contribute Heavily to Los Angeles Lakers
by George Middleton - rantsports.com

The Los Angeles Lakers summer league hasn’t gone as most NBA fans imagined. They have not dominated, in fact they’ve been the opposite. The Lakers have gone 1-3 and have looked like a mess at times. They have all the talent in the world for a summer league team. Key components are D’Angelo Russell, Jordan Clarkson, Jabari Brown, and Randle. The problem is that they are playing one-on-one basketball. Against the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks they had a combined 11 assists.

Randle looked rusty in the first two summer league contests against the Minnesota Timberwolves and Knicks. Things changed on Wednesday night, when the Lakers took on the Dallas Mavericks. The 20-year-old forward went for 17 points on 6-11 from the field. Randle displayed an arsenal of mid-range shots and ball-handling skills.

Time To Give Some Props To Lakers Front Office
by Pablo Jacobo - lasportshub.com

After bombing in free agency for the third straight year, the Los Angeles Lakers bounced back and saved face with their preceding additions. They signed Lou Williams and Brandon Bass. They also traded for Roy Hibbert. Solid moves that will not hinder the progressions of the young Lakers. It took some creative maneuvering for the Lakers to pull off these deals so kudos to the front office

At first glance these additions don’t seem to scare anybody, but for what the Lakers are trying to accomplish, the signings are great. The front office wants to build a team for the future. Essentially two lottery picks in D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle are what LA is banking on for their rebuild.

Since it was reported a year ago and recently that George Karl would do a Ty Lawson for Cousins trade. If Karl really wants a reunion with Lawson that bad then why not?

The Lawson rumor makes no sense. We're already at the cap limit and Lawson makes more than Kelly, Swag, and Sacre combined. How can we possibly do this?

Roy Hibbert’s Hollywood Remake: How the Center and the Lakers Can Help Each Other
by Kirk Goldsberry - grantland.com

Roy Hibbert and the Los Angeles Lakers need each other. One player, one team, both searching for a return to form. Five years ago, the Lakers won the franchise’s 16th NBA title. Since then, by way of their failed Dwight Howard–Steve Nash–Kobe Bryant superteam, they have slid into disrepair.

Two years ago, Hibbert was the defensive anchor of an Indiana Pacers team that took the Miami Heat to seven games in the Eastern Conference finals. Since then, he’s been reduced to a shell of his former self. Hibbert served as the poster child for the Great Indiana Implosion of 2014-15, and he was told, in no uncertain terms, that he would be coming off the bench in the upcoming season if he stayed with the Pacers. He opted in, and he was promptly traded.

And it could be the best possible outcome, for Hibbert and for L.A.

Lakers' Jordan Clarkson carves own lane as willing midrange shooter
by Rob Mahoney - si.com

Lakers guard Jordan Clarkson has a counterpoint game. While the broader trends of the league encourage guards to drive headlong to the rim or launch up three-pointers at will, Clarkson has carved out an immediate, intentional niche from midrange. In doing so, the 23-year-old works as something of an exploit. Modern NBA defenses are built to take away specific kinds of shots. Clarkson operates in a way that mines that give and take, stepping into the wide open midrange shots that many defenses naturally concede.

"It’s all two points," Clarkson said. "Getting there and getting to those spots is definitely an emphasis because I think they’re easy shots for me."

He wanted parts of the most money he can get, which he got with the bucks. No pun intended.

Because George Karl isn't the Sacramento GM.

Just what the Lakers needed to generate discussion.

Another rumor of another troubled player that the Lakers "have" to trade for.

Here is a novel idea, why not play out this year and see if the young core can actually play the game before shipping them out.

Long term planning instead of short term high risk moves.

Lawson is a very under rated PG IMO. He would be a steal! Russell not playing well could contribute to Lakers picking up a starting pg at this point which is not a bad idea. Russell will be good in couple of year but he just does not look ready.

Lakers hope for early impact from D’Angelo Russell, Julius Randle, but emphasize long game
by Michael Lee - washingtonpost.com

With a wink and a sly grin, the Los Angeles Lakers took a foray into an unfamiliar rebuilding strategy that requires the overuse of such p-words as patience and process and abandons the others — playoffs and parades — that have come to define one of the league’s most storied franchises.

After the Lakers made their NBA lottery leap into what turned out to be the second overall pick, Coach Byron Scott was caught on camera making that quick, one-eyed blink. At the time, the gesture seemed like a taunt to anyone who doubted the Lakers’ ability to somehow land a franchise-altering superstar – either by draft, trade, free agency, hook or crook. But Scott has since revealed that the wink was intended for Sacramento Kings vice president and former Lakers teammate Vlade Divac, who had a conversation about how great it would be if those ping-pong balls yielded some combinations that would result in those franchises finishing first and second.

“I gave him a wink, like, ‘Hey, at least I’m still in it,’ ” Scott said, since the Kings stayed at sixth.

Steve Nash To Train Jordan Clarkson, D’Angelo Russell For Lakers
by inquisitr.com

LA Lakers rumors have former MVP Steve Nash ready to train Jordan Clarkson and D’Angelo Russell. These Lakers rumors certainly indicate Nash wants to help the franchise, especially since he is not currently under contract with the team.

A report from CBS Sports late Thursday (July 16) indicates that Clarkson and Russell will begin working with Nash following the 2015 NBA Summer League. It could give the guards a big head start on the upcoming NBA season.

I don't see how it does.

Those 4 players combined make $9M. Lawson makes $12M.

The Hibbert, Williams, and Bass signings put us right against the cap. Hibbert even waived his trade kicker so we could still fit him in our cap space, because the extra $2M+ would've blocked all of our other deals.

This does not make sense, unless there's some trade exception to the cap that I'm missing. Can anyone explain this?

Nash needs to open up a PG training center like Hakeem. Come out to LA, spend time and learn how to run an offense.

Or the Lakers can lock Nash in and retain him.

Since many see a lot of Nash in Russell's game, that makes sense

Since Nash is excellent with and without the ball as a shooter, along with experience of playing with Kobe, this teaching experience should be invaluable to the two Laker guards
