Truth be told though, that Bulls team would win in a game/series. Defense too good, roles too well defined. Kobe would inevitably try to be the hero for the sll-time Lakers and get shut down by MJ/Pip or strangled by Kareem. |
Kobe would play like he did for the Olympic teams. He would back off and play defense. With a team like this, he doesn't have to score at all. Jordan would have to carry the offense and then try to defend Kobe, Magic, Baylor. Pick your poison. He would get (bleep).
And MJ and Pip ain't shutting down Kobe. Maybe a 35 year old Kobe.
The Bulls team would get wrecked by that team of legends. |
I love how every once in a while there's still people who try to compare the 5 time champ to some player who chucks his team out of games as if there is any evidence to support this stance whatsoever |
Yah, it goes both ways though. It's the internet "hypothetical extremism" thing.
You know where you create some hypothetical situation that cannot be proven or disproven, and then you make a statement that is very extreme and dramatic as if the boldness of the claim further validates it some how.
"Kobe would get shut down by MJ/Pip"
and then the other way
"Jordan would get (beep)" |
there is nobody in the history of NBA can shut down Kobe, not even MJ. |

first take's opinion on it.
I haven't watched it yet, so don't flame me if their opinion is dumb. I'm fully expecting it to be though |
SAS was on point, Skip was all over the place. Rodman playing SF, Tyson Chandler... |
100% agreed. Skip was trying so hard to troll, he can't fathom the thought of Michael Jordan ever losing anything LOL |
He said MJ was the best player in the court BY FAR. This is a court with Kobe, Magic, Kareem, and Shaq on it. |
MJ might be the best player on the court, but Lakers have the next 5 |

Remember, ESPN is the same company which gave Lebron the award for best championship performance this year when actual champions in other sports were more deserving. Mr 39% shooting in the Finals. I don't care about any of the other stats. Kobe shoots 39% in a losing series effort and he would be crucified. ESPN helped build MJ and absolutely made the legend of Lebron James.
As for the actual scenario of all-time teams, the Bulls would get plastered. Hell, young Kobe gave Pippen fits. Prime Kobe? Don't make me laugh. We all know it was Pippen, not MJ who guarded the other team's best perimeter player. |

You're right. We would still win that series with the bench alone.
That being an all time bench is just ridiculous. Sweet Jesus.
Our benchwarmer would also be George Mikan. (bleep). |
Third String would give a challenge too. Speed Basketball - None of those big men could handle Gasol in his prime either.

You can even add Russell, Clarkson, and Randle in there. I'm from the future, they're Hall of Famers. |

Saw that. Yeah Pippen going all Larry Bird tells me that game probably isn't too realistic. Or maybe they just hype up MJs teammates to boost the team's ratings. |

Shaq was too lazy to be on any team that would win by 50. Maybe he can argue that the greats on his team were so competitive that they wouldn't let a lazy effort happened.
Let's not forget that Shaq was the type of guy who believed in taking the lazy route and hoping he could flip the switch in the playoffs. Pat Riley got upset about it when the defending champion Heat were swept in the first round less than a year after winning a title.
Maybe Shaq would miss some games against the Bulls because he was too busy healing on company time. |

damn, me too.
I was watching it in my apartment, and i had invited a few people for a game party. At the end of the 3rd, i had to leave and rode my bike around the block for a few minutes. I had never done anything like that before; and I really had lost all hope. I truly did not think it was going to happen. And anybody who says "they knew they were coming back" is a little crazy. This was not like now, where everyone comes back from 20 point leads every other game. And this was like 4th game in a row where the blazers were just dominating the lakers. |

lol I felt so (bleep) before the 4th quarter.
Then that 4th quarter happened with Kobe blowing it all up, and suddenly we win!
Felt great. _________________ Lakers win record when Kobe goes for 40+ points

Yup. This game felt over. After getting swept out of the playoffs by SA and Utah in the 3 years before this, I was ready to murder somebody. It was such a relief to hear Chick saying the only thing Portland would be drinking on the way home was water. _________________ I got a fever....and the only prescription is more cowbell.

Right on. Kobe's legend as an NBA winner in the biggest moments pretty much started here and just kept growing. _________________ I got a fever....and the only prescription is more cowbell.

I remember Magic's junior sky hook vs Boston, that was a great play…but this Kobe-Shaq connection still gives me goose bumps. My favorite Laker play…ever. |

Skip Bayless just says stuff to see if it riles up people! "By far the best player on the court?" WTF. Tell me when Jordan won the title playing in the place of an injured Kareem at Center in the NBA finals. Jordan was fantastic but to say that he's by far better than a lot of the players in this matchup is ludicrous. He's not that much better than Kobe. Let's not forget Magic who could just about do it all. Kareem? Shaq? Wilt? Best player ever/GOAT arguments are silly. |

The way I always think of it is you get the player during any one of their years on your team. So the Lakers would have the most dominant version |

I would imagine that Jordan already has this, seeing as Miami, of all teams, retired his. |
Kareem has his jersey retired with the Bucks and Lakers
Wilt has his with Lakers, Warriors, and Sixers
Charles Barkley, Sixers and Suns.
Clyde Drexler, Blazers and Rockets
Dr. J, Nets and Sixers
Moses Malone, Rockets and Sixers
Nate Thurmond, Cavs and Warriors
The Big O, Kings and Bucks
Earl the Pearl, Knicks and Wizards (Bullets)
Bob Lanier, Pistons and Bucks
So, no, Shaq would not be the first... |
