A lot of you guys say no and I get it, but I want to go to the Olympics in my lifetime and it's easier to do that in my hometown. I was born in 1986 so I missed 1984. My parents went.

I'd like to see it as well but I doubt the IOC will make a return since they have built Olympic venues with billions of dollars of government money nowadays. It would be a return to the fiscal responsibility of the 84 games if they ever returned....back then they held competitions on the campus of ELAC, UCLA, USC, Cal State LA, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Dominguez Hills, Pepperdine, LMU, a bunch of public parks, the Rose Bowl, Dodger Stadium, the Forum, etc....amongst others...
Honolulu really wanted it. Let them have it. They can go totally old school and host an all outdoor Olympics.
High Dive Events Off Sacred Falls
Swimming Competition at Waikiki Beach
Track & Field Inside Diamond Head Crater
Rowing Events on the Ala Wai
Open Air Boxing on Hawaiian Homes Property Amidst the natives.
All those 2nd rate weird sports on the Hawaii Loa Campus
Tennis Stadium Setup on Kaneohe MCAS
Road Biking Events across Tantalus
Velodrome out in Kapolei
Equestrian Events at the Polo Grounds in Waimanalo
Soccer at Aloha Stadium
Golf at 7th Hole near Turtle Bay
Gymnastics at the Convention Center
The Triathalon using the original Ironman Course over on the Big Island
Open Ocean Water Polo with fans on floating pontoon seating _________________ I'm On point, On task, On message, and Off drugs. A Streetwise Smart Bomb, Out of rehab and In denial. I'd bet good money it's one of those "sounds better in your head than it actually is to do" things.
But I admittedly just do not understand the appeal of the Olympics.

I hope the decision has nothing to do with the Boston Marathon tragedy. _________________ Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

Bring it on! I want it here.
My dad took me to the Olympics in 1984, now I want to take my son to see it.
It worked back then, we can make it work now.
For the record, what was Boston's concern was public taxpayer money without Boston being allowed to see estimates.

As a kid, I was excited as heck about the LA Olympics in 84.
Times have changed.
Well the Olympics have become a bloated carcass who only benefits the IOC and pretty much leave white elephants and financial ruin for all the cities involved. Atlanta, Salt Lake City, and Los Angeles were profitable and made the hosts money because they didn't build much new infrastructure, but the IOC doesn't like that because they don't get kickbacks from the huge construction projects.
In 84 everyone thought that it was going to be a traffic nightmare. Many people took their vacation to see the games or just left town to miss the traffic horror. The mayor un fact suggested the citizens do just that. Amazingly enough traffic was not an issue at all. I was able to drive from Rosemead to the Forum to watch basketball at around 800 am on a weekday the traffic was so minimal it was like 600 am on a random Sunday. Best 2 weeks of traffic ever in LA that I can remember.

Well, we actually have light rail, a subway and train system now.....
Plus our freeways are much wider now...
It remains whether the IOC will choose LA since most of our infrastructure is already in place, or in the process of being built already....the potential new NFL stadium in Inglewood and new MLS stadium at the site of the LA Sports Arena. From the time we last hosted the Olympics, we have a refurbished Pauly Pavillion, the new USC Galen Center, Staples Center, the Stub Hub Center, the Rose Bowl has been renovated and the Coliseum is undergoing renovations in the future. Honda Center and Angels Stadium down in the OC are also available if needed if they need more venues. Although all these probably isn't shiny enough for the IOC if other hosts are going to build brand new spanking venues.
Also this would be the 3rd time hosting if it were selected so its a safe choice.

Los Angeles got the Special Olympics this year. Obviously not nearly close in size, but still fairly noteworthy. _________________ Damian Lillard shatters Dwight Coward's championship dreams:

I will contribute money to the IOC if they don't put the Olympics in LA.

Relax. You can always take a vacation. I hear Afghanistan is lovely during the summer.
Seriously, this isn't a given but if LA gets it, it will be years from now.
