Quote:
"I think that's the beauty of it," Scott said. "The one thing that we wanted to do and accomplish through this draft and through free agency was to try and be a little more versatile, have some versatility. So I think all three of those guys can definitely do that. Kobe can play one, two and three. There's no doubt in my mind. And there's some games. against some teams, where he'll probably play four. With his tenaciousness, the way he guards people and when his mind is set, if I say 'Kobe, you've got him,' he takes that as a challenge. You know how he is. He'll compete."

I hope he's being facetious, Kobe is going to be 37.

I see Byron isn't letting any analytics cloud his decision making abilities.

Our coach isn't brightest guy. He says a lot of stupid things; this is one of those things that are just flat out stupid to say; that said, I don't expect to see this at all during the season.

I assume this would only happen against other extreme small-ball groups, like the Dubs lineup with Barnes at PF, or the Pacers when they run Paul George there.

Even still, I'm pretty baffled at this. It feels almost like Byron has heard the complaints he's too "old school", so he's decided to wildly swing in the other direction instead.

Maybe on the offensive end with Randle switching over to the SF spot and Kobe to the PF. Makes sense considering not a lot of players can figure out Kobes footwork. Then you have Randle who will more than likely eat up other SFs. Then switch back on defense. I don't think it's as cut throat as you all make it seem.

Positions are more of a defensive than offensive concept. If he just wanted to say Kobe will post up sometimes, well, he actually did say that. There was no need to throw in the additional "play four" comment.

I seriously doubt that he was talking about lineups with Randle in them when he made this comment.

Edit: Note that in the quote he's specifically talking about guarding people. i.e. defending the 4.

This has nothing to do with fitting players in..... Scott is pulling a desperation move.

Did he just say against some teams he might have Kobe at the 4???

Oh man, come on BScott. Don't ruin my stoke before the season has even started...

(Oh that's the title of the thread. It's such a ridiculous notion my brain can't even process it. )

Kobe will not play PF. Scott is on drugs.

Against some teams I think kobe can pull it off. Warriors come to mind, when they throw Green @ center, we can put randle @ the 5, Kobe @ the 4 and it could work.

I think he's trolling the BScott hater crowd.

Hook, line, and sinker.

God help us if he isn't though.

Bye.

Kobe could easily play the 4 against Golden State with Draymond out there.

You know Kobe probably only weighs 215 lbs. after a buffet session, right?

I doubt he lines him up against Zach Randolf. But if Iggy or Ariza are lined up at the four, I can see Scott asking Bryant to play that spot in the offense while guarding those guys. Funny thing is Scott's statement suggests he's not wedded to traditional positions and he's getting killed for it.

Draymond couldn't even post up Delladova during the finals.

It's not about posting up defensively. It's about a nearly 40yr old man going up against a younger, bigger, bruising player. Kobe will be aching after matching-up against players that out weigh him by 30 lbs. At least that's what I think with my untrained eye.

Overreaction.net he said against certain teams not all teams. Teams like GSW with Barnes at PF teams like the pacers with George at PF. I'm glad to hear that Scott is willing to be flexible to get the best out of the team.
