Lakers probably have about 5-8 million in cap space after these moves. Sign a player to a one year deal?

Russell/Clarkson/Lou
Clarkson/Lou/Young
Batum/A Brown/Nance
Randle/Bass/Nance/Batum
Hibbert/Upshaw/Randle/Bass

Its not fireworks, but the team could be solid defensively with some shooters.

Then opt out of the Hibbert deal and go after Westbrook in 2017. Maybe Hibbert resigns to go for a chip?

I could see it going down like this?

Hibbert will turn 30 during the 2016 - 2017 season.

If he does well this season, he will probably be looking for a secure multi year contract rather than the more risky two year contract with a team option that you have suggested.

Yeah, I admit freely that DRoz is an inefficient chucker who is limited due to his poor 3 point shooting. But when has inefficiency been an issue on a Byron Scott team anyways?

I wouldn't mind a solid Horford/Batum/Hibbert summer if possible.

Interesting point. Having 2 max spots will change things IMO. Maybe not durant but with other FAs. Of course this depends a lot on Kobe's future too.

What is so interesting is the league has totally changed, out with the old in with the new. Can the Jim Buss Lakers bring the Lakers back to being an NBA power?

Good work.....a true fan

I think one of the more underrated "free agents" in 2016 is a new head coach. Will the Lakers eat Byron's last guaranteed year to bring in a fresh face?

I think Durant re-signs with OKC which means Westbrook and Ibaka will do the same. Horford stays with Hawks and Batum goes to Raptors.

Lakers 2016 offseason

1. Sign Derozan to the max
2. Re-sign Hibbert
3. Clarkson gets a big payday

Well, I can see Durant doing a 1 year deal to become a player with 10 years experience and therefore qualify for the next max tier. However, not certain he re-ups to the full 5 year deal.

I think Westbrook is an independent decision. He may stay, he may leave, but if he leaves, I think Lakers are the primary destination.

What do you think of trying to get Horford/Noah and using remainder on a few wing players?

Noah
Horford/Randle
[wing]
Clarkson
DLO

I'd pass on both Noah and Horford because of injury concerns. I prefer Hibbert especially in the Western Conference. He's a perfect fit for Randle and he's a better defender then Horford or Noah.

Noah is understandable, but I think you could strong arm them to take a slightly lesser deal to play together.

I like Hibbert, but let's see him play first. I hope 2014-15 was just an outlier, b/c in 2012-14 he was an all-NBA defender.

$60 mil in cap space?

Go big strategy. The Lakers won't be the only one.

Durant. Horford. Conley.

I think those guys are eligible for 25m each.

It's a critical year for the Lakers. It would really help if two of the Laker young players prove to be reliable, quality starters at a bare minimum.

If it's $25mil each, then so be it. Durant, Conley. Not too clear on how the timing works with the cap, but Hibbert, Randle/PF, Durant/Brown, Clarkson, Conley is quite formidable. It may not be the most attractive package on the floor for Durant and Conley, but it's a solid squad with a great location.

(GM Masai) Ujiri also could swing a deal involving part of his core. Whispers continue to circulate that DeMar DeRozan's camp will be after the new mid-max (a whopping $25.3 million) a year from now and there is no way the Raptors will be comfortable footing that bid.

Yeah, if DRoz wants to be a Laker it'll have to be lower than that. And it's up to him. I personally would rather have Batum.

Yeah, but that's the problem with Parsons. His health. Pretty troubling he's so hurt with such few minutes/age.

^ The thing with DRoz is that his shooting and FT attempts fell off somewhat last year. If it's injury related like Batum and he returns to his previous upwards trajectory, I can see a couple of teams taking hard looks at him. He's also one of those guys who would benefit from a more structured offense.

I think a guy like Batum works better with DLO/Clarkson.

If we came out with Batum/Horford/Hibbert (assuming he plays decently), would be an A summer for me.

That is why I think the Raptors signed Demarre Carroll.

Caboclo is still developing while Ross and/or DeRozan might not be in the long term plans of the Raptors.

20 million is the highest im willing to give to DeRozan. And also, isn't he a free agent in 2017? We're just assuming he opts out next year, which he likely will

I think 20 million is grossly overpaying a very ordinary results at high usage player.

Well given how our front office has been doing and with 60 million in cap space, id say its safer to spend the money on someone rather than get no one, which i think is a legitimate possibility. As long as it isnt like a super long deal like 5 years, id say at 2-3 years it doesnt look so bad once the cap jumps again in 2017
