Can't wait for this. Release date Aug. 7th 2015.
Dre on scrapping his album "Detox":
Quote:
I didn't like it. It wasn't good. The record, it just wasn't good. … I worked my ass off on it, and I don't think I did a good enough job.
Makes me feel good about this one. The guy is a perfectionist.

Can't wait for this. I'm a huge fan of old school hip hop, not only excited for the movie but now for this too. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
I look forward to the movie too. But I'm an old scaredy can now. I'll probably wait for on-demand so I don't have to deal with all the teenagers that will be all hyped up and aggressive at the theater.

Can't wait! It'll be my first CD purchase in years.

Too bad no one listens to rap in 2015
Are you kidding? There are entire cities made up of people who have tattoos of lady guadalupe and refer to Air Jordan Sneakers as "jays". They all listen to rap. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Never that man, I'm going with my shades and my old school Compton hat from when I was a teenager, show these young pups how it's done. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
Got it today, listened from start to finish, quite enjoyed it. Not quite the classic of his first 2 albums, but was never expecting it to be. Very good production, was pretty good all in all, Kendrick was dope on it. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.
Not good at all. No stand out tracks. For a record that was supposed to be influenced by Dre's growing up in Compton, it sure lacked any old school flavor or even good beats.

Pretty lame. Tha Chronic set the tone for a whole decade, 2001 wasn't quite as great but still damned good. This one sounds like it was made to be listened to with Beats™ headphones. Zero replay value. What a bummer.
Wit so much drama in da LBC, it's kinda hard bein' the posta known as CMB, but uh...somehow, someway, he keeps comin up with funky ass posts like every sin-GLE day. Ain't nuttin but an LG thang, baaaay-bay....

I liked it too. It was very good musically and the lyrics were top notch. I don't know what people were expecting from a 50 year old billionaire. We're you really expecting him to be sample heavy with some sythhs and the West coast whistle like the 90s? That's like asking Prince to make music like purple rain again. It's dated. Geniuses don't look back.

Wait, why wouldn't you expect something classic from him? I expected at least a single to be featured, whether that's club-friendly like "Kush" or even a classic one like "Lil' Ghetto Boy", with both quality content and listen-ability. Compton has too much vocal distortion and quick drum rapping for me. I can maybe get behind "Its All On Me", but nothing else speaks to this 34-year old white guy.

it was OK at best i'd say, several tracks were good but i wasnt a fan of alot of the beats, if there was one album he produced that he destroyed was Xzibit - Man vs. Machine (02) the beats he made for him were fire _________________ Indianapolis Colts

He's beyond the little ghetto boys and even Kush. He didn't like Kush. He did what he liked. Dr. Dre is not going to make trap beats or trap music. It seems some were expecting beats like what is popular on the radio now. He has never done that. Watch people start copying what he did on this record.
I enjoy hip hop quite a bit, but in my opinion, this album is entirely average at best. Not even King Kendrick can save it from mediocrity. I would rather listen to Killer Mike, El-P, RTJ, Bun B, K-Dot (his work, not him limelighting on a crappy record - To Pimp A Butterfly is infinitely better), or Pusha-T, etc. any and every day of the week.
No wonder he hauled in guest artists, often multiple, for virtually every song and gave up on Detox. If Detox is worse than this, it must be a horrifically awful tire fire. Even Dre knows he lost his fastball.

I'd say people were expecting quite the opposite, actually.
Compton feels so modern and fresh. Really sophisticated as far as the arrangements. Anyone that went into it expecting/wanting g-funk beats like its 1992 clearly is having a hard time adjusting to the fact that its 2015 going on 2016 and the 1990s ended 16 years ago. _________________ Whenever the Lakers benefit all of a sudden rules need to be changed and trades need to be blocked.

Part of it with me is that it doesn't feel the same without Nate Dogg.
A lot of the good moments in west coast hip-hop include Nate, he was a huge part of the G-funk sound. _________________ Lakers, Chargers, Dodgers, Arsenal FC.

He'll never make anything that will reach The Chronic or 2001. For that time, it was new, fresh and an introduction to the G Funk era and Snoop. Can't be re duplicated no matter how hard he tries. That (bleep) was groundbreaking.

Damn. Miss Nate.
Love the production of that Talking to My Diary. Samples from a Beanie Siegel song that originally sampled it from a gospel cut. Love the trumpet.

People were probably thinking a Chronic type album. Dude basically had to go with the times. Can you imagine the amount of unheard (bleep) hanging in that cat's studio that we'll probably never hear?

Just like Prince. Apparently he has enough tracks in a safe deposit box somewhere, that if he released a song a day, it will span roughly 10 years.
