LeBron James complained the defending NBA champions had to play a road game on Christmas.
The league listened, altering its policy to guarantee the reigning champs a Christmas home game.
Now, LeBron will feel the downside of that change in the first NBA Finals rematch on Christmas since Heat-Thunder in 2012.
Marc Stein of ESPN:
LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers are tentatively scheduled to visit Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors on Christmas Day, according to league sources.
This is the second known Christmas game on the NBA’s tentative schedule, joining Heat-Pelicans.
Warriors-Cavaliers will obviously be the featured attraction. These two teams just played a highly entertaining NBA Finals, and that was with Kyrie Irving and Kevin Love sidelined. If everyone is healthy, the star power in Oakland on Dec. 25 should be through the roof.
This is exactly the type of basketball the NBA should promote on its marquee regular-season date.
I would think they would want the Lakers on XMAS on ABC, given that this may be Kobe's final year. _________________ From 2-10 to the Western Conference Finals
Unfortunately, it is probably going to be a couple of years before the Lakers are relevant again. I hope they prove me wrong. I'd like to see Kobe go out healthy and on a team that wins more than it loses. The West is stacked. The Lakers are young. I doubt it happens. I'd be surprised if we land too many marquee games for a while.
