In Summer League action J. Holmes averaged 10.0 points and 5.0 rebounds (48% FG, 46% from the arc). Really solid defensively.

JH has NBA potential, he's a good energy guy but not spectacular at anything.
However he has size, length and range. He is savvy & smart. He'll eventually find a home somewhere. Could LA be the spot, we shall see.

Scouting Turner throughout the year, Holmes was the most consistent player on Texas. He has starter potential at SF.

I like what I saw of him in summer league. He even defended Okafor well a time or two.

I agree he has the potential to eventually be a starter in the NBA.

Most importantly Holmes provides a legitimate prospect filling the role of larger defensive SF. He just has to make the team and prove he can contribute now.

I can now stop pissing and moaning about the lack of any player capable of playing that role on the roster. A rookie but at least an option.

DX had him as its 24th pick (although the undrafted Christian Woods was right there too). Excellent camp invite. With brown, nance and Holmes you have older players who may have a smaller upside but more NBA ready game.

Draymond green was drafted at 22 and that guy got paid at 25. Still will get another contract so 10-12 yrs is ok i guess

I agree with what most have said, solid camp pickup.

Typically you'd have someone requesting clips to backup your statement, I don't think that's going to happen here.

That sounds like something only a woman who's been with Holmes would even know.

I heard from Oliver that Holmes is a beast in the bedroom.

Holmes is really right along that Larry Nance type of player line. His set shot looks better though.

It could be me, but it seems that Nance and Holmes are here to kind of serve the same purpose?

I have hopes for Nance, his athleticism is amazing!

I think Holmes might beat out anthony brown for a roster spot of be the 3rd sting SF... Holmes is athletic enough to play SF and can shoot the 3 ball. I'm still not sure if Anthony Brown is athletic enough for the league

If the Red Mamba in San Antonio can play in the NBA and be effective, AB can too. That ginger moves slower then my dead grand mammies. As long as you make 40% of those threes, does not matter how Affletic(As Magic would say) you are in the Association.

Bonner is a big tho, and Brown will play in the perimeter... Bonner doesn't have to use as much athletic ability or quickness. don't get me wrong, I'm rooting for A Brown

Holmes makes only sense (apart from being camp fodder) as a SF. But he has played PF s far, not?
Can he play the SF spot? Has he actually played as a SF?

He is a hybrid SF/PF. But seems to have the potential to play SF. Actually played SF quite a bit at Texas due to a glut of PFs on the team. Sounds similar to how the Lakers would use him. Only hit 33% of his 3pt attempts but has a solid mechanics. His best quality. High energy guy.

Quote is from his DX scouting report. Sounds promising.

The biggest key to Holmes sticking in the NBA will likely come down to his ability to defend his position. Standing 6-9 with a 6-11 wingspan, a near 9-foot standing reach and a 242 pound frame, Holmes has solid size for a NBA power forward, but is quick enough to step out onto the perimeter and guard most small forwards as well. That gives him great versatility which is highly coveted in today's NBA, even if he'll have to show that that element of his game can translate to competing against NBA athletes.

Holmes gets into a defensive stance willingly, and slides his feet well to stay in front of attacking players. He's a physical and competitive player with plays with a high energy level and isn't afraid to dive on the floor for loose balls or throw his strong frame around. Holmes blocked quite a few shots from the small forward position this year (1.6 per-40), indicating good timing and anticipation skills, and also grabbed a ton of offensive rebounds throughout his career at Texas (4 per-40), which is also a good sign.

Is he a 4/3 or 3/4 hybrid? Seems more 4/3 undersized PF.

And was really good at handling the balls.

and he goes hard in the paint

I've watched a lot of old video on this guy. He's longer than he looks. He gets to the hole with ease and can finish with both hands. Explosive.
