5 episodes in, it's one of the greatest things I've ever seen. I don't recall it very highly acclaimed. Maybe I just wasn't looking in the right places.

Quality show. I'm not surprised they're making a movie.
The show was taken off the air too soon.
Timothy Olyphant and Ian McShane are perfectly fit for their roles.
And its HBO so the production quality was great. I'm sure it's aged well. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better” |

I think so. I always thought it had a Wire-ish reception: critically acclaimed, few viewers, not enough mainstream press. |

Great show. It did receive critical acclaim when it was airing, just never got the viewers for some reason. |

Yep. It's an awesome show. It slipped under the radar during it's airing unfortunately. |

It was fantastic the first season. It was still good in season 2 but started falling apart after Gerald McRaney joined the cast in Season 3. To me, they never could find another proper villain that was on par with Ian McShane's character.
Hell on Wheels has been a much better western drama. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Stopped watching when Common was killed off.
I was a dedicated viewer prior to that. _________________ "Every hurt is a lesson, and every lesson makes you better”

That was a bummer but this season has been one of the best so far. _________________ "Suck it up. Don't be a baby. Do your job." - Kobe Bryant |

Good series...ended abruptly, but a fun ride. The language is over the top funny. |

There is an interesting story behind the language: they wanted it to be period correct, and deadwood had a reputation as an uncouth, foulmouthed place, but when they tried it with the curses if the time, it was too tame by modern standards, so they replaced old school cussing with four letter obscenities. The over the top-ness was meant to convey the very real danger and tumult of the time. To give the modern viewer the feeling that a visitor at the time would have had. |

It's basically about some of the more infamous denizens of Deadwood back when it was a Gold Rush boomtown. Most of the main characters were based on people that existed at the time. Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hicock were two of the more famous historical figures that are portrayed on the show.
If you have HBO Go, it's worth watching especially during the dogs days of summer. |

Loved the show, pretty much all the characters. Great dialogue, and fleshed out characters. How the tension build in a key episode or scene. I really enjoyed the acting. Sol Star, Charlie Utter and how he is towards Bill and others of the cast, Kim Dickens, Al of course, Trixie, the Doc, Jewel, on and on. Loved the look of the show too, intro, camera work, large progress of the west theme, how the west was built theme (distinct from the progress theme), the ...general and blacksmith, the loudmouthed racist Steve, so vivid years later.
An alltime favorite, even with the hurried smushed ending due to nonrenewal.
Awesome, didn't see that there's talk of a movie in this thread. Great news. Must have Milch at the helm. |

Finished S1
McShane/Swearengen is the most charismatic, most interesting lead in any series. When you talk about stage and screen presence, he is it. I hang on his every poetic word. Olyphant/Bullock is the least interesting character and weakest actor, so it's too bad he's the face of the show. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Bullock boils on the inside..... Swearengen bursts into flame and sets fire to everything! |

Sadness. With sadness, it ends, and (bleep) early. Might've been the best. _________________ http://chickhearn.ytmnd.com/

Great great series. Never jumped the shark. Could have done a few more seasons with ease. |
