The Lakers have promoted Ryan West to director of player personnel.
West, formerly the team's assistant director of scouting, started as a scout for the team in 2009. He also worked as a scout for the Memphis Grizzlies for almost eight years.
A team spokesman confirmed West's change in title, although an official announcement won't be made until September.
Along with Jesse Buss, the Lakers' director of scouting, West was a driving force in the draft-day trade with the Washington Wizards for guard Jordan Clarkson. |

| Fwiw, Sam Presti followed a similar track with san antonio. Sassistant director of scouting to director of player personnel. Then on to assistant gm, before jumping to okc as gm. |

No, it was just held by assistant coach Larry Lewis. |
All we can do is disagree because I think that Assistant Coach / Director Player Development and Director of Player Personnel are different positions within the organization.
I think of Assistant Coach / Director Player Development as a position with a fair amount of time spent working with directly with players while I think of the position (Director of Player Personnel) that West is getting is more of a Front Office position with less contact with players which fits his background of scouting and working in the Front Office. |

Power inside of organizations doesn't necessarily flow from titles, and shuffling them around doesn't always change the actual hierarchy. I sense that while Jesse has a say and solid involvement, Ryan wasn't stalled or minimized by reporting to him on an official basis, since all of them regularly talk with Mitch. |
