with the Huertas signing, it lowers the chances MWP will be picked up.

Bring him in as a development coach

Translation:

Mitch: Um Ron, or Metta, or whatever your name is, you have to leave the facility. We will have to call security. You can't put up a campsite at halfcourt.

MWP: I ain't going no where until you give me a roster spot.

There has to be some other move if this is happening, like unloading Kelly for a future 2nd. Can't see why they would bother with Holmes, Frazier in particular ...

They may just cut Kelly straight up.

Why? Kelly brings value. Plus he's a free agent after this season. If anybody should be cut straight up it should be Robert Sacre. His game stinks worse than skunk feces.

Bringing in Metta to mentor Randle is great.

Problem is Byron will probably start him and play him heavy minutes.

MWP best days are long past him.

Perhaps as a defensive coach.

It would take away from the development of the younger players. The more time they have the faster the Lakers rebuild.

Kobe is the only older player they want at the most.

Mentoring is important. MWP could easily be our 14th or 15th player this season.

Woj:

Quote:
Free agent Metta World Peace has begun to work out daily at the Los Angeles Lakers’ practice facility, inching closer to a return to the franchise on a one-year contract, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
World Peace, 35, started participating in informal workouts with Lakers players this week at the team's facility in El Segundo, Calif., and is expected to continue through the start of Lakers training camp later this month, league sources said. No deal has been agreed upon, but there’s an increasing expectation that will happen this month, league sources said.

World Peace had been in the Lakers' practice facility earlier this summer, too, working against 2014 first-round pick Julius Randle, sources said.

World Peace has been out of the NBA since the New York Knicks waived him during the 2013-14 season. He played last season in China and Italy. Lakers officials are growing in the belief that World Peace, formerly Ron Artest, has evolved into a mature veteran who can impact a young roster with his toughness and resolve, league sources said.

Waive both Kelly and Sacre, sign Upshaw and the Brazilian guy, hire MWP as a coach, call it an offseason.

Knicks brought back Sasha, and if we bring back World Peace, we'll have a good reunion when we play New York.

I don't mind the signing considering we aren't expected to make the playoffs. How can we possibly get worse?

As far as age, Bowen played decent defense well into his 30's, and it's not like Metta suddenly lost his edge in that department. Assuming Byron gives him veteran minutes, I'm sure Metta can muster a bit of Ron Artest.

Do it, Mitch!

Bringing back Ron Ron would make this season 1000x more fun. Just his press sound bytes alone would be worth it!

I don't see the big deal in this. Teams bring in washed up players all the time.

Jimmy Jackson, Derek Harper.
Heck Phil brought in countless guys who were washed up.

So long as Metta is a positive influence in the locker room, who the heck cares?

My first reaction is that he's too small to run at the 4 and too slow to run at the 3.

But he's the same height as Draymond Green. So...maybe he can carve some minutes out in our rotation. Maybe?

If MWP can help J. Randle improve in any aspect of his game then at least a camp invite would be well worth the investment.

If MWP makes the cut as a 12-13 man off the bench and a mentor, so be it.
