How many roster spots are remaining? Personally I think that Upshaw making the roster will pay off big in the future.

1, if we have 15 men; 0, if we stay at 14.

Uh you can have up to 20 for the training camp. Regular season roster spots are competed for in the training camp.

So does Johnathan Holmes and Michael Frasier still have to make the team after been given contracts?

They were given small guarantees, and both are unlikely to make the final roster.

We should invite someone named Ali to push them in training camp.

The roster is already full and overbooked. There will be some cuts and tears before the season starts.

With Holmes and Frazier Lakers stand at 16 players.

Kelly and Sacre are on guaranteed contracts.

Jabari Brown and Tarik Black (+ Holmes and Frazier) are non-guaranteed.

I don't understand why Sacre has a guaranteed contract.

Well the Lakers sign him to an exsteinsion and then picked up his option back in July and it's a good thing they did because I not sure Upsahw will make the team and they need insurance at center so there. Plus also to use him in a salary filler for any trade we make.

I think the last five in/last five out roster competition is going to be great for the Lakers.

As I see it eight of the roster spots are as locked as they can be before training camp, but some of the head to heads are going to be very interesting to see.

Likely eight have made the roster: Russell/Williams/Kobe/Clarkson/Young/Randle/Bass/Hibbert

If players remain the same w/o trades, the main battles I see are:

- Sacre/ Upshaw/Black- likely 2 of 3 make the roster
- Kelly/Nance/A. Brown/ Holmes- likely 3 of 4? (can all 4 make the team due to SF position?)
- J. Brown/Frazier/Buycks - likely only 1 of 2

Given that several current Lakers have make-good or Summer contracts only, that even other non-guaranteed contract players can be cut on the spot, it don't matter much how many we have right now.

Other than the report of a workout a few weeks ago, I haven't found anything recent connecting him to the Lakers.

If I had my preference:

Keep Black for a small ball line up....Sacre and Upshaw can battle it out. I would wish the Lakers would think more about the future if Upshaw has any serious potential. Even in his tryout/scouting videos, he was doing things that Sacre couldn't even dream of....like long step back jumpers, turn around jumpers, and even dunks.

Please get rid of Kelly! He just hasn't shown much in two seasons. Keep Nance, it would be nice to have someone with elite athleticism for once.

Who is a better long range shooter between A Brown and Holmes? Keep that one.

As much as I like outside shooters, Jabari has produced when he has been given PT. So unless Frazier really impresses, keep Jabari Brown. Forget Buycks...isn't he kind of old?

that's my wish list.

Am I the only one who thinks that the roster is already set?

Frazier will be cut after the camp and we have 15.

And that's it.

He showed skill and aptitude as a potential stretch 4 his first season. It wasn't hard to predict he would fall off a cliff with "Mr. Old School" coaching. Maybe the new push towards analytics will help.

It'll be hard for Kelly to find minutes now.

Randle, Bass, & Nance Jr. is a lot of comp for him

Nance might be used as a 3.

I was a big Kelly guy coming out of college, but he just has not shown much of anything at the pro level and been fragile to boot.

I would move on from him at this point and look at other options. For instance, Tarik Black is a much better NBA player right now than Ryan Kelly and it isn't close.

We can probably take up to three more people to camp. We have 17 +/-1 players so far. Then we have to get rid of a few after camp, maybe send 1 or 2 to d-fenders. Trade?
